As a seasoned gamer and technology enthusiast, I’ve seen my fair share of acquisitions in the tech industry that have shaped the landscape of gaming and cybersecurity. The recent news about Google’s parent company Alphabet reportedly planning to buy Wiz for a whopping $23 billion USD is certainly an intriguing development.
According to sources familiar with the situation, reportedly exclusive to The Wall Street Journal, Google’s holding company Alphabet is planning on spending around $23 billion USD to acquire cybersecurity firm Wiz.
In 2020, Wiz, a new cloud security company based in New York, was founded by individuals who had previously established Adallom. Adallom was launched around three years prior, and in 2015, it was bought by Microsoft for approximately $320 million USD.
Wiz identifies security weaknesses in the infrastructure by conducting thorough analyses, focusing on areas where hackers might gain unauthorized access to users’ private information. Earlier in the year, the company was appraised at a worth of $12 billion USD during a fundraising round where they aimed to raise an additional $1 billion USD.
Based on my extensive experience in the tech industry, I strongly believe that this deal would be a game-changer for Google if it goes through. As someone who has closely followed Google’s growth over the years, I can attest to its dominance in various sectors like search and digital advertising. However, when it comes to cloud computing, there is still room for improvement.
The company might face obstacles in buying Wiz due to criticism over its market power in tech and a lawsuit filed against it by the Department of Justice last year for suspected antitrust infringements.
