Google has unveiled their highly anticipated first quantum computing chip called Willow. While this marks a significant leap in the technological evolution, one might wonder about the potential impact on Bitcoin’s future.
Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, unveiled Willow – Google’s initial quantum computing processor. This groundbreaking development marks the beginning of a promising voyage towards quantum computers that can be practically applied in everyday use.

In a performance evaluation, Willow managed to complete a common calculation within just five minutes, whereas it would take a traditional supercomputer roughly 10,000 quadrillion centuries – the equivalent of 1 followed by 25 zeros – to accomplish the same task.
This groundbreaking quantum processing unit may gradually minimize mistakes using ultra-quick gate operations, aiming for low error percentages. It also boasts adaptability in its design, as well as intricate algorithms that ensure a high degree of interconnectivity.
According to Google Quantum AI’s hardware director, Julian Kelly, an anomalous increase in errors from certain qubits might be addressed by “aligning them in a row” and employing tunability to devise innovative calibration methods.

Google needs advanced chips to break Bitcoin

Yet, it’s essential to note that, when it comes to cracking the Bitcoin blockchain, a quantum computing chip requires anywhere from 200 million to 400 million qubits at its maximum capacity.
In simpler terms, it’s important that Bitcoin’s system can accommodate future quantum computing algorithms, as this technological advancement might pose a risk to Bitcoin in the future. However, for now, there seems to be no immediate threat from such developments to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
