Govinda BREAKS silence on arriving late on sets; claims he was ‘chela of Dilip Kumar’; ‘Jab tak mere sur-taal…’

Known for his exceptional acting skills in India, Govinda often faced criticism for being late to film sets, a habit that many feel may have impacted his career negatively during the 2000s. However, he has recently explained that he valued himself as a ‘chela’ or disciple of the legendary actor Dilip Kumar, stating “I could only reach the set when my rhythm was right, which wasn’t always the case.

During an interview at Bheeshm International’s YouTube channel, Govinda opened up about his professional style, expressing that he regards the iconic actor Dilip Kumar as a mentor. He also made it clear that any lateness was never deliberate on his part.

Instead of explaining, he shared an analogy: Just as a skilled musician adjusts their instrument before taking the stage, he ensures his mental and emotional state are in harmony before stepping onto the film set. This is something he has always adhered to, never cutting corners or being untruthful about it.

Additionally, the Partner character shared an interesting detail – at one time, he had approximately 40 movies in progress, continually shifting from one filming location to another.

Speaking about his challenges, the actor from Bhagam Bhag shared that, being self-taught, he stumbled upon the movie business unanticipatedly. He gratefully acknowledged Dilip Kumar for showing him the ropes, stating that without encountering this seasoned actor, he might not have made it in the industry.

As a devoted disciple, I found myself reminiscing about the guidance Dilip Kumar once bestowed upon me – discarding 25 films was his suggestion. Initially, I hesitated, my thoughts consumed by potential financial losses. Yet, Dilip Kumar alleviated my concerns, promising to provide the necessary funds and insisting I heed his advice. Ultimately, placing my trust in my mentor, I decided to step back from those projects as he advised.

When Govinda consulted a financial advisor, they cautioned him not to heed Dilip Kumar’s advice, since he had just emerged from his own financial difficulties.

Yet, Govinda perceived the seasoned actor as a sincere benefactor, recognizing that no one else had expressed care for his wellbeing, even amidst his grueling work schedule, which occasionally extended to 16 straight days.

Additionally, he defended his practice of being tardy on set, stating that due to multiple movie projects, he needed to skillfully organize his schedule to meet all his work responsibilities.
