2025’s Grammy Awards showcased several rising pop stars who have taken over the music scene, with Chappell Roan bagging the Best New Artist award and Sabrina Carpenter earning three wins, two of which were given out prior to the main CBS broadcast during the Premiere Ceremony. Both artists delivered electrifying performances.
Beyonce continued her dominance at the Grammys, amassing even more awards and setting a new record as the most awarded artist. Remarkably, she also claimed the long-sought-after Album of the Year prize for her country album, “Cowboy Carter.” Although many experts predicted this would be the year Beyonce would finally take home the Album of the Year award, even the pessimists among us were taken aback by her victory, as it was unexpected for some who had grown accustomed to seeing Beyoncé miss out on winning this top honor.
However, even though they’ve been acclaimed in previous years, Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift, two women who have shone brightly at the Grammys, left empty-handed this time around, as neither of them secured a single trophy during the ceremony on Sunday night.
This year, Eilish, who was nominated seven times and had been favored for both Song and Record of the Year awards, ended up leaving empty-handed, despite previously sweeping the four major categories at the 2020 Grammys. Similarly, Taylor Swift, who was a six-time nominee for the album she won big with last year, failed to win any Grammy this time around, even though it earned her a fourth Album of the Year win. This is somewhat reminiscent of the plot twists in “Inception,” as humorously pointed out by Trevor Noah.
However, throughout the performance, both Swift and Eilish took their spots in the limelight. Swift handed over the award for Best Country Album to Beyoncé on stage, then joined the audience for some energetic dance moves as per her custom. Meanwhile, Eilish entertained with her performance and shared a comical conversation with Noah during one of the scheduled breaks between commercials.
Distinctive omissions from the list of winners were seven-time nominees Post Malone being overlooked and Charli XCX taking home three awards; however, these accolades were given during the preliminary ceremony and not the televised broadcast on CBS. Notwithstanding, Charli XCX delivered an unforgettable performance during the event.
At the opening event, Bradley Cooper, who is an actor, writer, and director, received his third Grammy. This time, it was for his work on the soundtrack of the movie “Maestro,” where he also co-wrote, directed, and played the role of Leonard Bernstein. Previously, Cooper had won Grammys for “Shallow” and “A Star Is Born.” However, the victory for “Maestro” occurred following a less successful run in film award competitions last year. Despite being nominated for numerous awards at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, BAFTAs, SAG Awards, and Oscars, the movie did not win any prizes from those organizations.
