Grand Seiko has revealed the SLGH027, a special edition watch that boasts a silver-blue textured dial inspired by the peaks of Mount Iwate. Nicknamed “Mountainscape,” this latest release takes design cues from the mountain’s rugged terrain, echoing a pattern initially seen in 2006 and synonymous with Grand Seiko mechanical watchmaking. The dial’s striking light-blue shade mirrors the purity of the environment surrounding Mount Iwate, which is an active volcano in Japan, symbolizing the clear air and water found there.
In the lineup of the Evolution 9 Collection, this watch debuts with its distinctive casing, matched with multi-faceted markers and hands. The case and band are crafted from Ever-Brilliant Steel, an alloy of stainless steel that boasts superior resistance to corrosion compared to standard watch materials in the industry. This alloy accentuates the brushed elements of the watch, producing a brighter sheen that harmonizes beautifully with the silver-blue dial, creating a visually striking yet harmonious overall look.
This timepiece, driven by the 9SA5 Hi-Beat automatic mechanism, boasts an impressive 80-hour power reserve. It achieves this longevity due to its Dual Impulse Escapement and twin barrels. The movement design is inspired by the flowing waves of the Shizukuishi River nearby, and can be admired through the transparent sapphire caseback.
The SLGH027 “Mountainscape” watch is set to retail for $10,500 USD, and it’s scheduled to launch in May. Only 1,200 of these watches will be produced by Grand Seiko and selected dealers across the globe.
