In your quest to safeguard Terenos from Primorva’s malevolent forces, it’s crucial to have the most formidable heroes on your side. However, acquiring these powerful heroes requires strategic focus. You should aim for the top-tier classes, since in Grimguard Tactics, instead of directly drawing characters, you draw main classes.
At present, Grimguard Tactics features over 20 primary character classes. Characters within the same main class share similar appearances, yet they possess distinct names, abilities, and rarity rankings. The rare characters have a lower appearance rate but boast enhanced statistics, making them the most powerful among their peers.
However, with enough duplicates, you can ascend heroes to a higher rarity and massively improve their stats. But even that won’t work if you don’t target the right classes. That’s where this Grimguard Tactics tier list comes in! We’ve ranked the main classes into FIVE tiers: S, A, B, C, and D. Higher tier = strong main class = best heroes.
Grimguard Tactics tier list exception
In Grimguard Tactics, there are two types of heroes that transcend this tier list:
- Midnight Court Heroes
- Dawnseeker Heroes
Regardless of their primary class, retain and develop heroes who carry either of these distinctive labels. These characters are unique, boasting enhanced statistics compared to their standard counterparts. Some of them also offer benefits that extend to your entire team, making them incredibly powerful additions to your roster.
In other words, even if a character bearing the Dawnseeker or Midnight Court insignia comes from a class categorized in the lower ranks, disregard the classification and consider investing in this character.

1 S Tier
- Arbiter
- Acolyte
- Sorcerer
- Enchantress
In Grimguard Tactics, these four primary classes stand out as the most powerful. Regardless of whether you’re rushing through dungeons, engaging in fierce player-versus-player combat, or working your way through the main narrative, characters from these classes shine in every scenario!
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but sing praises for the versatile and mighty Arbiter class. This ranged warrior is packed with impressive Area of Effect (AoE) abilities and a plethora of enemy debuffs at its disposal. What sets the Arbiter apart from other classes is that it doesn’t have a weak subclass – no matter which path you choose, the build becomes overpowered (OP). This is why every team needs an Arbiter in their ranks!
Sorcerer and Enchantress
are two very similar main classes. Both are superb damage dealers and have the best crowd-control abilities on offer. If you can get both of these on the board, you’re primary damage dealers will have the time of their life getting rid of the Charmed and Slowed enemies, including Acolyte.
A newcomer as the primary class in Grimguard Tactics, the Acolyte proves formidable against opponents with their blood-manipulation skills, making them an indispensable asset to your fighting force.
2 A Tier
- Tinkerer
- Barbarian
- Shieldmaiden
- Surgeon
- Paladin
As a passionate player, I must say, this A-tier lineup is nothing short of impressive! You’ve got two robust tanks, a damage dealer so fierce it could be mistaken for a beast, a healer who’s almost divine in her ability to resurrect the fallen, and a charming mascot that brings a touch of chaos to the team. With the right equipment, strategic subclasses, and a climb up the rarity ladder, these classes can outmatch even the strongest decks!
First, let’s discuss our lively and somewhat unpredictable mascot, known as the Tinkerer. This character has a unique ability to summon various types of bots, each inheriting the basic attributes of the Tinkerer. These bots can traverse the game board, providing healing for allies or inflicting damage on enemies. Essentially, by deploying these bots, you create an additional unit that could consume an entire turn of your opponent’s strategy.
Barbarian is another melee class that excels at dealing and absorbing damage. Depending on the subclass you choose, you’ll either get a damage + self-buff combo (Pit Fighter/Clanlord) or a damage + enemy-debuff combo (Rageheart). If you plan to get the best damage output from the Barbarian, Rageheart is the best subclass for you.

Shieldmaiden and Paladin are tanks that focus on taking damage from enemies and protecting allies. Go for the Shieldmaiden if you want to debuff enemies in every turn, and choose Paladin if you’d like to buff your allies.
In the recently updated roster of Grimguard Tactics, we have a new character class: the Healer, or as they’re now known, the Surgeon. This class excels at boosting allies and resuscitating fallen comrades, getting them back into the fray. However, the Surgeon doesn’t offer many additional abilities, which explains why it remains in the A tier.
3 B Tier
- Blademaster
- Brigand
- Mercenary
- Gunslinger
- Priestess
Regardless of personal preference, characters from these classes will likely be essential for much of the early and mid-game challenges. Therefore, it’s wise to invest in them, but remember not to put all your resources into them. Instead, consider keeping them as reserves or using them for less challenging dungeons.
In summary, a Dawnseeker Priestess hailing from the Devotee subclass could be an exceptional choice for a team’s support or healing role. While the other two subclasses are respectable, if you intend to focus on healing capabilities, it would be wise to construct her as a Devotee.
Blademaster can hold the fort as a secondary DPS in case your primary gets wounded and has to stay at the hospital. Her Duelist subclass deals massive and quick damage and can help you parry attacks and land dealy counters as well. You can also build her as an AoE damage dealer with a Crit boost. And if you are diligent and like to keep a backup for your backup, build a Mercenary and ascend him to, at least, Legendary.
Brigand is a damage-dealing tank with some decent long and short-range attacks. Choose the Seasnake subclass to absorb damage, dish it out, and make things easier for the allies by debuffing enemies.
In the game, following the Arbiter, the Gunslinger stands out as the top choice for long-range assault roles. Both classes possess Area of Effect (AoE) and single-target abilities, but there are subtle differences between them. While the Arbiter employs arrows to dish out more damage and has a greater resilience, the Gunslinger relies on bullets that may not deplete the enemy’s Health bar as efficiently.
4 C Tier
- Archer
- Fighter
- Gunner
- Spearman
The heroes of early game content are only good for the C tier when you look at the bigger picture.
In Act 1, the Archer swiftly eliminates opponents with just one arrow, while the Spearman endures heavy attacks and remains resilient enough to deliver the decisive strike in boss fights. The Gunner serves as the primary long-range combatant at the beginning, and each shot he fires appears to be a crucial hit.
In the second act, it becomes apparent that these characters have their imperfections. At this point, it’s wise to step aside from them and explore more robust options instead. Don’t let your affection for these heroes blind you into pouring all your resources into them. It’s not a sound investment.
5 D Tier
- Guard
- Hag
- Healer
- Warrior
- Witch
Currently, these classes in Grimguard Tactics are the least powerful. As a result, you’ll often encounter these characters when recruiting new heroes. However, it’s important to note that they aren’t entirely without value. Instead, you can choose to retire these heroes, which will reward you with items such as Hero Ascension Tomes for increasing hero rarity and Essence items for upgrading weapons and armor.
Here’s a possible rephrase: This is what the Grimguard Tactics rank order currently looks like in the game’s competitive environment. However, as fresh updates roll out, expect modifications to this ranking too, with the list being adjusted accordingly.
Until then, consider checking out a rank order (tier list) for Realms of Pixel which can provide valuable information on characters to choose, or alternatively, delve into the Five Nights TD tier list if you’re more inclined towards Roblox games.
