GTA 5 Fans Share Frustrations Over “Barren” Map as GTA 6 Wait Continues

As a gamer with over two decades of gaming experience under my belt, I must say that the current state of GTA V’s map is like a well-worn pair of shoes – comfortable, familiar, but in dire need of an upgrade. While the vast expanse of Los Santos and its surroundings once felt like a breath of fresh air, it now feels more like a city, and a whole lotta nothin’ but rock.

2025 can’t come fast enough as GTA 5 enthusiasts eagerly seek alternatives while Rockstar continues their prolonged development of GTA 6. Since Rockstar unveiled the game trailer around ten months ago, the absence of new GTA content has led fans to revisit GTA 5’s expansive world. Now, players are debating how spacious and desolate the GTA 5 map seems and speculating about how GTA 6 will revamp things in the coming year.

Initially, a Reddit user named u/CellistLow1383 posted a meme demonstrating that the entire Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) map encompasses the maps of previous games such as GTA San Andreas, GTA IV, and Red Dead Redemption. They subsequently sparked discussion within the community by inquiring about their opinions on Grand Theft Auto 6, subtly hinting at their thoughts regarding the current GTA 5 map and any insights they might have regarding the potential layout of GTA 6’s map.

Many gamers share the opinion that the city of Los Santos and its surrounding areas in GTA V seem rather empty or sparsely populated. Despite the map being designed with ample room for flight, players often remark that even after three console generations, GTA 5’s map is “a city, with a lot of emptiness beyond it, just rocks.” The northern part of the map consists mainly of mountains, and there are few reasons provided to encourage players to explore areas outside the city except for occasional missions.

Some players feel that GTA San Andreas’ map is still superior to GTA V’s, with the city being dynamic and alive. Others pointed out that San Andreas feels like there are no dead ends around the map, interconnecting different city areas with its wilderness in every direction. When players criticize an 11-year-old map, things start to get serious. Staring at the same map on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 takes a toll on one’s space-time perception. It’s high time that Rockstar gave what the fans deserve, and hopefully, they will get to see GTA 6 before Concord 2 comes out.
