The anticipated GTA VI is believed to push the limits of gaming by offering an open-world that outshines its competitors. However, such groundbreaking innovation may come at a cost, as it might initially run at 30 frames per second. Although this frame rate is still suitable for playing the game, it could frustrate those who expected superior performance in this generation.
In a since-deleted interview with Kiwi Talkz (via VideoGamer), Mike York, a former animator at Rockstar Games, shared his views on the framerate for their upcoming game. Contrary to speculations of a potential 60 fps, York indicated that the game will likely target a consistent 30 fps, meaning it won’t fluctuate above or below this mark. While technically the frame rate isn’t problematic, many find 60 fps to offer a more visually and tactilely pleasing experience.
York expressed his doubt, saying, “I’m not certain they can achieve 60 frames per second. In fact, I suspect they’ll aim for 30fps instead. And by ‘locked 30fps’, I mean they’ll strive to maintain it consistently without any drops below that rate.
Time alone will reveal whether GTA VI meets our high hopes, but a frame rate of 30 fps might indicate it falls short. Generally speaking, such a frame rate would be acceptable for many games. However, given the standard set by the latest PS5 and Xbox Series titles, some fans may find this disappointing, even though it seems trivial.
It’s possible that GTA VI may follow the pattern set by GTA V and be remastered for future systems such as the PS6. By then, Rockstar Games might have developed the technology to run the game at 60 frames per second smoothly. Additional gameplay mechanics could potentially be included, though it’s too early to tell as we don’t yet know what the core game will entail.
That covers all we currently understand regarding GTA VI running at 30 frames per second. Meanwhile, Halo enthusiasts might be interested to learn that Halo is set to make its appearance on PlayStation 5.
