GTA’s next big release could finally be good news for PC players

As a long-time PC gamer who has been eagerly waiting for Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) to grace our platform, I’m thrilled by the recent rumor that Rockstar Games might be preparing GTA V for release on PC Game Pass. For years, PC players have felt like second-class citizens in the Grand Theft Auto universe as we’ve had to wait significantly longer than console counterparts for new releases and updates.

For PC gamers, Grand Theft Auto might not be their preferred franchise due to Rockstar Games’ focus on console versions. Despite releasing most games on PC, the developer pays less attention to this platform compared to consoles, making Grand Theft Auto a better fit for console players.

1. It’s evident that Rockstar Games prioritized the release of GTA V on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, with PC gamers waiting until 2015 for their turn. Now, considering GTA V’s PC version is ranked second only to Half-Life 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 among the highest-rated PC games of all time on Metacritic, it would be thoughtful of Rockstar to acknowledge PC players with a bit more attention.

Based on information from well-known GTA source Tez2, it’s possible that Grand Theft Auto V will make its debut on PC Game Pass. subscribers of Microsoft’s gaming service are familiar with titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V being added and removed, but so far, only the console edition of GTA V has appeared on Game Pass.

Microsoft is reportedly working on announcing the title’s name for public consumption, but they haven’t provided a definite timeline for this event. With GTA 6 scheduled to debut in 2025, this potential release could fill the void in the gaming community, especially since there’s been no official update regarding GTA 6’s PC launch and most anticipate a prolonged wait similar to GTA V.

1 Way of Paraphrasing: To put it simply, if GTA V arrives on PC Game Pass, you might launch the game via your Xbox application. From there, you’d proceed to use the Rockstar Games Launcher, similar to how EA games are played on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – they are initiated through the Xbox App and subsequently through the EA app.

The arrival of GTA V on PC Game Pass brings some disappointing news, however. Instead of the enhanced Xbox version, which is also playable on PC, it appears that only the basic PC edition of the game and GTA Online will be provided. Additionally, console-exclusive features for Xbox Series X|S and lobby restrictions limited to PC users are to be expected.

In the previous year, discussions emerged about GTA V possibly joining PC Game Pass, along with disclosures regarding its monthly pricing whenever it’s added to the service. It seems that the estimated expense for bringing GTA V onto Game Pass is between $12 and $15 million per month. Given that the game usually remains there for six months, Microsoft might end up paying approximately $90 for these brief periods of availability.

1. The PC Game Pass is lagging behind its console equivalent in terms of subscribers. Adding the second-best-selling video game of all time could certainly increase its popularity. However, one might wonder if people who haven’t played Grand Theft Auto V yet will be drawn to it on this platform.
