- Guitar Hero Mobile has been officially announced but with a bit of an awkward announcement
- Activision has once more caught flak due to the use of AI art for the reveal
- With little else to go on for this hotly-anticipated revival, there’s little excitement for this release
In terms of fast-paced rhythm games, while the genre didn’t gain significant traction in Western regions, there was a notable exception – Guitar Hero. Excitingly, this iconic series is making a comeback, and what’s more, it’s heading to mobile devices! However, it seems that Activision has stumbled almost immediately, falling from the stage and into the orchestra pit in their first move.
The announcement wasn’t made through a trailer or press release; instead, it was an AI-generated promotional image on Instagram that spread the news. Given the recent buzz about AI usage in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the comeback of this iconic series has been somewhat overshadowed by the artistic aspect of the announcement.
Regarding any additional details about how Guitar Hero Mobile might appear (or sound), there isn’t much information available at present. However, the well-known franchise did make its way onto mobile devices around two decades ago, as you can see in the timeline below; hence, we’re all eagerly anticipating something truly remarkable.
Broken strings
It’s been noted by many that the artwork for the Guitar Hero Mobile unveiling was quite poor and possibly not even made using contemporary image tools. In simpler terms, this could mean that Guitar Hero Mobile may not be well-received upon its release, especially given the strong competition like BeatStar from Space Ape, which remains popular.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled at the prospect of Guitar Hero resurfacing, especially if it’s designed for mobile devices. The possibilities seem endless! However, I can’t help but feel that Activision has stumbled again, despite all the promising aspects.
