Her Instagram post was a beautiful journey through her life’s experiences and the significant role that her teachers played in shaping her into the accomplished artist she became.
On July 21, 2024, Guru Purnima was celebrated by many, including celebrities like Saira Banu. They expressed their gratitude towards their gurus and teachers by sharing heartfelt tributes on social media. Saira Banu’s post, filled with precious memories, is truly touching.
Saira Banu attributes her success in classical form to Padma Shri Roshan Kumari
A 79-year-old woman began her letter expressing gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon her throughout her life by her gurus, who shaped and influenced her through their teachings and guidance. Notably among them was Padma Shri Roshan Kumari, a fellow Jaipur Gharana artist who collaborated with renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Saira considered Kumari her classical dance mentor.
Regarding her, Saira expressed, “Saira’s elegance and self-control in dance were awe-inspiring and an invaluable contribution to Indian classical dance. All my accomplishments in this field I owe to her.” The actress also expressed her gratitude towards her teacher for providing her with the necessary guidance and shaping her into a talented dancer during her classical dancing journey. Saira Banu pays tribute to veteran choreographer P.L. Raj
In her preceding note, Banu reminisced about her first film Junglee (1961) and the initial song she filmed for it, titled “Kashmir Ki Kali.” She mentioned the late P.L. Raj and shared that they worked together on numerous films throughout Banu’s career. Furthermore, she acknowledged her rehearsal composer, Shalini Deshpande, who put in great effort and meticulously rehearsed dance moves with her for each performance.
Appreciating their contribution, Saira Banu promised to share more such stories soon.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Saira Banu was a major star in Indian cinema. She acted in many renowned films such as “Shagird” (1967), “Diwana” (1967), “Sagina” (1974), “Bluff Master” (1963), “Ayee Milan Ki Bela” (1964), “Jhuk Gaya Aasman” (1968), “Padosan” (1968), “Victoria No. 203” (1972), and “Hera Pheri” (1976), as well as “Bairaag” (1976). After working in films until 1976, Banu decided to retire from Indian cinema. Her final movie, “Faisla,” was released much later, in 1988.
