Former contestant and model Hailey Merkt from The Bachelor, who featured in season 21 alongside Nick Viall, has passed away following her fight against cancer at the age of 31. In October 2023, she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a rapid-growing blood cancer. The sad news of Merkt’s demise was announced on her Instagram account on Tuesday, several months after her last post. A heartfelt tribute to Merkt’s life was posted alongside a series of photos, with the caption reading:
With heavy hearts, we announce the sad news that Hailey has left us following a valiant struggle for her life. Hailey tackled this difficult path with extraordinary fortitude, elegance, and selflessness. Her tenacity, courage, and desire to live outlived every medical prediction, and she decided to spend her last moments enveloped by the love of her family and doing what brought her joy without any regrets.
She’ll always be known for being far from dull, constantly making people laugh heartily, and someone immersed deeply in the here and now. Hailey lived life passionately, and her radiant soul left an indelible mark on many others.

Hailey Merkt’s Fight Against Cancer
Merkt shared her experience with cancer, posting updates online via social media and GoFundMe after receiving her diagnosis. In April, she announced that she was in remission and free of cancer following a successful bone marrow transplant. However, as per an update on the GoFundMe page (by organizer Christopher Bennett), Merkt’s cancer reappeared only six weeks later.
“Following her bone marrow transplant, she was given nine months of respite from cancer, only to learn that leukemia cells had returned and were rapidly advancing within six weeks. Stricken with this revelation, she expressed, ‘I no longer care about my own well-being, but I can’t stand the thought of causing pain for those I hold dear.'”
Bennett pointed out that Merkt chose to seize each moment fully, cherishing time with her beloved ones and engaging in activities she adored, as she found joy in numerous everyday pleasures.
