Halle Berry’s Mirrored Oscars Dress Was a Nightmare

Among the remarkable gowns displayed at the 2025 Oscars, none left me as spellbound as Halle Berry’s did. The actress graced the event to pay tribute to the James Bond franchise and, in a sense, acknowledge her role as a Bond girl in “Die Another Day,” one of her finest films. Clad in a snugly fitted Christian Siriano mirror dress, she was nothing short of stunning. The conversation was all about her breathtaking appearance, but now the designer is revealing the challenges behind this specific creation.

Siriano explained that the dress in question was quite a difficult piece, especially because of the amount of sequins and mirrored pieces that make up the entire dress. Apparently, the pieces didn’t hold onto the dress very well, so the night before, Siriano and his team of dressmakers worked tirelessly to ensure nothing fell off the dress while the 2002 Best Actress Oscar winner wore it on Hollywood’s biggest night. He explained to InStyle:

It required three weeks to create initially, but fixing it turned out to be a last-minute job, working on it right up until around midnight. We had quite a hassle with all those mirror sequins and beads that kept falling off. I remember thinking, ‘Oh my goodness, Halle might wake up and find everything missing!’ So we went ahead and fixed every single piece. The dress was the first one Halle tried on, and it was the one she planned to wear for the event.

In my opinion, I’d contend that it was a wise decision indeed. The one-of-a-kind gown fit Berry exceptionally well, as she’s always eager to try out unconventional fashion trends. Moreover, the dress was expertly accessorized and presented with elegance.

Besides suiting her flawlessly, she donned an assortment of diamond accessories from Pomellato that complemented the “mirrorball” style. The black sheer panels on the side added to its seductive appeal, and it’s hard to imagine the challenge of affixing those mirror sequins onto such a slim, delicate fabric. The workmanship was nothing short of remarkable.

Despite the undoubtedly stunning dress in his possession, Christian Siriano unexpectedly opted to remove the dress from his fashion show instead.

Although the outfit was strikingly attractive, it appeared quite challenging and fragile, suggesting it might be tough for a model to display effectively. Moreover, he pointed out that most other items in his collection for that particular season lacked the silver tone, and including such a prominent silver statement piece could have created an inconsistency.

Instead of making the dress part of the show, Siriano chose to keep it hidden, but he expressed no regrets about this choice, stating:

It was [the right decision] because it was the first time anyone would see it I think.

Rather than the dress being exhibited on the runway prior to the Oscars, it was initially unveiled on Berry, thereby creating a unique and personalized moment specifically for that particular gown.

Without a doubt, this design was captivating and likely would have sparked conversations on the runway. Yet, amidst the array of Siriano’s stunning creations that were also presented, it might have gotten overshadowed. This particular fashion moment, however, was undeniably the highlight of the Oscars, and I’m thrilled that he saved it for the grand occasion.

After the memorable incident with the mirrored dress, Halle Berry is not slowing down her pace. Netflix subscribers can catch her in the popular show “The Union“, and she’s also set to share the screen with Chris Hemsworth in an upcoming film. Clearly, she’s still shining brightly, both on and off the red carpet. If her performance at this year’s Oscars is any hint, Berry’s next phase promises to be as radiant as ever.
