Halloween 2024: Beetlejuice Makes Multiple Appearances Across Morning, Daytime Talk Shows

As a long-time fan of these morning talk shows and a devoted admirer of Halloween spirit, I must say this year’s costumes have left me spellbound! The transformation of our beloved hosts into iconic characters from movies like Beetlejuice, Titanic, Austin Powers, and even Inside Out, has been nothing short of magical.

The characters from the Tim Burton franchise “Beetlejuice,” portrayed by Michael Keaton, were called upon through various television talk shows. Hosts on NBC’s “Today” show, the syndicated “Live With Kelly and Mark,” and “The Kelly Clarkson Show” each donned ghostly attire reminiscent of Beetlejuice.

Today, Al Roker donned a Beetlejuice costume, while Dylan Dreyer chose Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz as her character for dressing up. Later in the morning on Live With Kelly and Mark, Kelly Ripa transformed into Lydia Deetz, and Mark Consuelos adopted the Beetlejuice outfit.

On her self-titled daytime talk show, Kelly Clarkson wore a Beetlejuice outfit. To start the show, she performed a ghostly rendition of “Banana Boat (Day-O)” known as a Kellyoke version.

On Thursday, Beetlejuice appeared several times, whereas Consuelos and Ripa switched costumes numerous times during this year’s “Only Halloween in the Building” special event on Live. This marks the final Halloween celebration at their current studio, as they are moving to a new location in Soho come springtime.

Today’s “VHS Rewind” event was all about the hosts exploring the aisles of a video rental store reminiscent of Blockbuster, followed by the NBC morning show presenters assuming roles of iconic characters from popular films.

Beyond the TV pairing of Dreyer and Roker, Savannah Guthrie transformed into Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, with Luke Wilson unexpectedly joining her, reprising his role as Emmett. Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager portrayed Jack and Rose from Titanic, while Craig Melvin adopted the character of Alex Foley from Beverly Hills Cop, a film that had its long-awaited sequel debut this fall. Meanwhile, Carson Daly and Sheinelle Jones donned the roles of Austin Powers and Foxxy Cleopatra, respectively, from Austin Powers in Goldmember. Willie Geist assumed the character of Ron Burgundy from Anchorman, Peter Alexander dressed as Mrs. Doubtfire, and Laura Jarrett energized the crowd with her portrayal of Isis from Bring It On.

On “Live with Kelly and Mark”, the show began with an opening inspired by “Only Murders in the Building”, introducing this year’s Halloween theme titled “Only Halloween in the Building”. The hosts, resembling characters from the show, were seen dressed as Mabel (Selena Gomez) and Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin). In a fun twist, producer Michael Gelman was portrayed as Martin Short’s character, Oliver, during a podcast recording session.

Later, the three of them strolled casually past the hints that a killer was active in the building (such as a smoldering firearm and misleading evidence), blissfully unaware, and happened upon actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph from the show “Only Murders.

After that, Ripa and Consuelos appeared on stage, portraying Lydia and Beetlejuice respectively, and they danced along to the opening tune from the popular Netflix series, “The Perfect Couple“. At the conclusion of the event, not only the hosts but also the audience enthusiastically tried out the famous dance move that had gone viral from the show.

During Thursday’s special, the hosts frequently switched costumes, utilizing an onstage lift for outfit transformations.

Additional outfits showcased were Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce (a fan favorite from last year) at the US Open, Lady Deadpool and a companion Deadpool featuring Joey Fatone as Wolverine from the movie “Deadpool and Wolverine”, and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn paired with Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker from the upcoming film “Joker: Madness Duet”.

Typically, the special included pre-recorded segments that were presented as comedic trailers and advertisements. A sneak peek was given for a film inspired by Pixar’s Inside Out, focusing on menopause, with Ripa portraying “lost Joy,” expressing concern about meeting the same end as metabolism, which “disappeared months ago.” Consuelos played rage in this production. Additionally, Ripa and Consuelos teamed up to bring together viral sensations from the Olympics, Raygun, the Australian breakdancer, and Anthony Ammirati, the French pole vaulter who accidentally knocked over a crossbar with his private parts, for a fictional Hallmark holiday movie, “A Gold Medal Christmas,” where these two athletes fell in love. Ripa and Consuelos also parodied the Chimp Crazy Max series. Moreover, the show honored former production executive Art Moore, who retired in September, by creating an ad for an adult content channel inspired by Only Fans, called “Only Art Fans,” featuring Moore as the star. The closing caption read, “We are fans of Art. Forever.

ABC’s “Good Morning America” has persisted with a tradition seen in recent times, where the show’s hosts typically do not don costumes for Halloween.

This year, “The View” decided to forgo their Halloween festivities due to the approaching election. However, they began the show with a dream sequence that highlighted some of Donald Trump’s most alarming statements. The segment also displayed children’s costumes inspired by pop culture and politics, such as kids dressed up as Trump, his Democratic rival Kamala Harris, and Anna Delvey, who was once a contestant on “Dancing With the Stars” and was convicted of fraud.
