As a gamer who has survived countless nights of terror and slashed my way through countless maps in Dead by Daylight, I must say that the Haunted by Daylight event is a truly spine-tingling experience. The Knight’s new pumpkin-themed skin is a delightful addition to the game, and the Xenomorph’s glowing blight look is downright terrifying. If you haven’t played Dead by Daylight yet, now is the perfect time to dive in and get your spook on!
As the seasons change, they offer an excellent opportunity for live-service games. With autumn now here, it’s perfect timing for Halloween-themed activities. Let me share a brief overview of some games this fall that players might find intriguing:
As always, for Halloween fans can expect new horror-themed skins featuring classic characters like ghosts, zombies, vampires, and mummies. Other games get a little bit more creative.
Apex Legends: Techno Terror
In a slightly different twist for Apex Legends, they have introduced Techno Terror – a cyberpunk-themed Halloween spectacle. During this event, players can collect 24 unique, limited-time cosmetics and enjoy some novel features in the game mode to add an extra thrill to the battle.
During the Techno Terror event, special candy can be used to enhance your character’s performance, and there are Cyber Rev shell grenades to aid in defeating the opposing team. An exciting addition is the Copycat Kits, which enable you to acquire the abilities of other Legends, leading to a more chaotic battlefield for Halloween.
Gathering all temporary makeup items during this period will reward the player with the Pathfinder Apex Mecha prestige skin as an added bonus. This event takes place from October 15th to November 4th.
Call of Duty: Warzone/Modern Warfare 3: The Haunting 2024
In a more casual, straightforward manner: Shooter games and horror themes often complement each other. While Call of Duty usually sticks to its military theme throughout the year, Halloween is one time when fans can switch things up. That’s where events like The Haunting come in.
This year, gamers can acquire DLC packs featuring iconic figures from popular horror culture. These packs will grant access to characters such as Michael Myers from Halloween and the Clown from the Terrifier films.
Working together with Paramount, the game includes downloadable content featuring eerie smiles for characters Makarov and Valeria – all in anticipation of the upcoming horror film “Smile 2”.
Fortnite – Fornitemares 2024
Essentially, Fortnite is known as a violence-free series. However, it doesn’t prevent the team at Epic from participating in Halloween celebrations. They can still create various cosmetic items suitable for characters who aren’t typical superheroes or game icons.
As a thrill-seeking gamer, I’m super excited for Fortnitemares 2024! This year, they’re unveiling a spooktacular collection of Halloween-themed cosmetics. From the whimsically chilling Nightmare Before Christmas to the heart-poundingly intense Saw films, there’s something for every fan. Can’t wait to see what other surprises are in store!
In 2021, Fortnitemares offers costumes for figures such as Billy the Puppet (from Saw), the Pumpkin King and Sally (from Nightmare Before Christmas), Edward Scissorhands, Leatherface (from Texas Chainsaw Massacre), along with Disney antagonists like Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent. Additionally, there are costumes for Marvel characters including She-Venom and Mephisto.
In addition to what we already have, Fortnite will soon introduce new weaponry such as the explosive Boom Billy remote bomb reminiscent of the Saw series and Leatherface’s menacing chainsaw.
In various parts of the world, you’ll find numerous television sets that showcase the Billy puppet. Engaging with this puppet could lead to a confrontation with the wicked Saw doll.
Dead by Daylight – Haunted by Daylight
Year-round, Dead by Daylight carries an eerie atmosphere, but the Halloween season truly amplifies its horror vibe, serving as an ideal time for this slasher movie simulator. The game features the Haunted by Daylight event, which includes exclusive themed costumes for both killers and survivors during this period.
Despite the fact that all the antagonists in the game have a Halloween-like theme, they are made more vibrant and specifically spooky with details such as bright orange jack-o’-lanterns. Not only has there been an update to the Knight’s appearance, but also a ‘glowing pestilence’ variant for the Xenomorph.
In addition to the survivors, some also receive fresh makeup styles incorporating traditional Halloween imagery such as skulls, spider webs, and bat wings. Although Dead by Daylight maintains its eerie atmosphere throughout the year, they’ve added a touch of brightness to mark the festive season. The haunting experience continues until November 6th.
Red Dead Online – Undead Nightmare and All Hallows’ Call to Arms
Red Dead Online is joining the spooky spirit of fall by bringing back the Halloween Pass 2, offering scary-themed goods ideal for the season. Additionally, a fresh mode called “All Hallows’ Call to Arms” has been introduced, where players will defend settlements from waves of assailants, some of which might not be entirely human.
Engaging with the Hallows mode will grant players twice the usual rewards, and it’s set to run throughout the Halloween period.
Overwatch 2 – Halloween Terror 2024
Many people find that Overwatch events follow a predictable pattern. However, the event that stands out as particularly cherished among fans is undeniably Halloween Terror.
This year, Blizzard plans to introduce a novel game mode titled Junkenstein’s Laboratory. Essentially, it’s a unique twist on the deathmatch style where players can tailor specific abilities for characters. For instance, in this mode, Moira could opt to focus solely on healing or damage during her ultimate, or Genji could deflect attacks from all directions when he activates his ability.
If Junkenstein’s Laboratory doesn’t appeal to you, the Halloween Terror event offers a variety of other game modes for you to explore. The Wrath of the Bride features Sombra as the primary antagonist and pits players against enhanced versions of various characters, along with legions of “zomnics,” which are a mix of zombies and omnics.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but get excited about Season 13, often referred to as ‘Spellbinder.’ It’s got this incredible Hogwarts-inspired Widowmaker displaying her magical prowess that has me hooked! The game hasn’t forgotten its recent collaboration with My Hero Academia either, showcasing MHA-themed skins for characters such as Tracer and Reinhardt. To top it off, there’s an array of Halloween skins dating back years, which can only be obtained during the chilling season.
Overwatch 2’s Halloween Terror event is here to stay until Nov. 4.
Have Fun While You Can
Remember that all these events will be temporary, so it’s advisable to sign in immediately and begin earning the Halloween-themed items that catch your interest.
If you find yourself short on time to prepare for Halloween, you can instead opt for purchasing your decorations or costumes with real money.
Let the spooky season commence!
