As a gamer who’s been through my own share of online trolls and toxic communities, I can empathize with Halsey‘s feelings. It’s disheartening to see the very people you connect with turning against you, especially when you’ve poured your heart and soul into your craft.
After resuming her music career with the release of “Lucky,” Halsey expressed feelings of regret over her comeback, due to some negative feedback from certain fans.
The musician known for “Without Me” has shared on Tumblr this week about the emotional struggles they’ve faced due to their ongoing health battles.
“In a long post, Halsey expressed that her own fans are generally more critical and unkind to her than any other group. She clarified this does not reflect all of her supporters but feels that an increasing number have taken to expressing their dislike or negative opinions about her. The lack of compassion, understanding, patience, and basic human decency in this space is challenging, especially since she’s avoided such interactions for fear of exactly this kind of treatment. After putting herself through such a harrowing experience, Halsey stated she won’t do anything that doesn’t bring her happiness anymore; she can’t afford to sacrifice her spiritual well-being.”
The “Bad At Love” performer went on, expressing, “When I fell ill, all that filled my mind was recovering to rejoin THIS once more, but now I’m uncertain what *this* stands for, and I feel an overwhelming desire to hide away. I am ridden with regret for returning.”
It wasn’t immediately clear which criticisms she was directly addressing.
“The song ‘Lucky,’ released on July 26, takes inspiration from Britney Spears’ 2000 hit of the same name. Previously, when a fan asked Halsey if Spears was involved in her new single, Halsey replied that she certainly wouldn’t proceed without Spears’ approval, saying ‘Yes, of course! I wouldn’t dare to do it without her consent!'”
The music video, directed by Gia Coppola, similarly delves into the shadowy aspects of being a pop star and borrows creative elements from Britney Spears’ initial music video.
The track is slated to feature on Halsey’s fifth studio album, due out soon, following the artist’s public disclosure about their personal struggle with severe health problems. In June, Halsey revealed, “I was diagnosed in 2022 with Lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Currently, these conditions are under control or in remission; however, I will probably have to deal with them for the rest of my life.” After an initial setback, I managed to regain control with the help of fantastic medical professionals.”
