Hammer Museum Reveals Lineup for 2025 Made in L.A. Biennial

The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles has unveiled the schedule for the much-awaited Made in L.A. biennial, taking place from October to early January 2026. Featuring 27 artists, this exhibition will prioritize those based in and around the greater LA region.

For the seventh iteration of this biennial event, curators Essence Harden and Paulina Pobocha assembled a collective of artists from different generations who work in diverse mediums. Highlights among the showcased pieces are an exhibition by renowned conceptual artist John Knight, architectural investigations led by Jerald Cooper, founder of Hood Century Modern, a dance piece by Will Rawls, and a theatrical performance by Leila Weinraub and avant-garde team New Theater Hollywood, comprising Max Pitegoff and Calla Henkel.

This year’s theme is still undisclosed, but the curators emphasize that the vibrant energy and personality of the city will run through all the pieces as a common motif. In their joint statement, they mentioned, “From the beginning, our main goal was to immerse ourselves in art, to explore it extensively. We aimed to gain insights from artists and create an exhibition based on those encounters.

Throughout our show, numerous concepts are being discussed, mirroring the variety of materials. However, a significant portion of our work revolves around exploring one’s connection with the city of Los Angeles. This city isn’t just a myth or a single entity; it means different things to different people. Its chaotic, disorderly nature might be its most defining characteristic.
