As a hardcore animation and sci-fi fan with decades of gaming experience under my belt, I’m beyond thrilled to hear about the upcoming animated movie “Isla Monstro”! The announcement of this project, brought to life by an impressive ensemble cast including Spencer Grammer, Harland Williams, Will Friedle, Harry Lennix and John DiMaggio, among others, has me hooked.

As a gamer: I’m excited about the star-studded voice cast behind the animated sci-fi comedy movie “Isla Monstro”! With Spencer Grammer, Harland Williams, Will Friedle, Harry Lennix, and John DiMaggio lending their talents, this ensemble is sure to bring the characters to life in a hilarious and captivating way.

Originating from multimedia company Abyssmal Entertainment, the production of this new feature has been wrapped up. It’s set to kick off promotions at San Diego Comic-Con, featuring a booth and a panel scheduled for Saturday. The film is helmed by director and animator Steven Shea (known for “Surviving Supercon”), who collaborated on the script with James Schrader. At present, it’s in search of distribution.

The story of Isla Monstro revolves around a duke who is up to no good (voice by Schrader). He accidentally falls off a cruise ship and wakes up on a secluded, classified government island teeming with mutated creatures and monsters as remnants of a failed “super soldier” project from the 1980s. The duke comes up with a plan to transform the island into an exclusive vacation spot, using the creatures as staff. However, this idea is met with disapproval from the U.S. government.

Completing the impressive ensemble of voice actors are James Marsters, Barry Bostwick, Juliana Harkavy, Christopher Sabat, Maurice LaMarche, Dana Snyder, J LaRose, Andre Gower, Kristina Klebe, Dia Frampton, and LeeAnna Vamp.

The film features artwork from Logan Van Der Wolf, Zia Izzy, Elly Karipides, and Chickenz. Rob Reider created the film’s original score. Additionally, a comic book series, merchandise line, and video game app are being developed under the brand.

The SDCC panel for “Isla Monstro’” takes place on Saturday in Room 6DE. Here, you’ll find a Q&A session with the show’s actors and directors, as well as a sneak peek of the upcoming movie. Moreover, Booth 1901 will be transformed into a tiki bar, offering autograph opportunities with the cast and exclusive comic books and merchandise for sale.

“During the pandemic, I came up with the idea for this project while in lockdown. To create content without leaving home, I turned to animation. I taught myself this skill through online tutorials and collaborated with friends on making this film. In my basement, I worked for over a year with a team of 12 people and over 40 voice actors. This project has grown far beyond what I initially imagined!”
