The Season 5 finale of “Harley Quinn” has recently been broadcasted, and although an official confirmation for Season 6 is yet to be made, the series’ creator has hinted at future developments. This season of “Harley Quinn” on television took a fresh approach by having Harley (Kaley Cuoco) and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) relocate to Metropolis in a season heavily focused on Superman, which introduced characters like Lena Luthor, Lois Lane, and Brainiac. However, the season concluded with Harley Quinn and Ivy returning to their original Gotham City apartment from the series premiere, surrounded by friends and family more united than ever. The final moments of the season didn’t hint at a new danger but instead depicted Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy exiting their apartment to explore Gotham City together.
After the final episode, Harley Quinn’s showrunner Dean Lorey discussed with Collider about the potentially ongoing narrative for Season 5. Although he wishes for it to carry on, the ending is optimistic, and if Warner Bros. and Max opt not to renew the series, it could serve as a fitting conclusion. Lorey stated:
Primarily, we’ve been considering it as something other than a series finale, as we have plans for additional content. We found that if the show were to conclude at that point, it would make for a satisfying ending, but rest assured, we aim to create more. We’ve already put in significant effort brainstorming what’s next, so I’m optimistic we’ll soon share some thrilling updates.
Lorey added that he hopes the show doesn’t outstay its welcome, and he’s eagerly looking forward to working on Season 6.
I’m hoping we end the series before it reaches a point of no return. So far, there hasn’t been a comprehensive plan, beyond our wish to keep Harley and Ivy together through ups and downs, while allowing them to develop and evolve. If we’re fortunate enough to have another season, we have an excellent concept in mind for Season 6. We can’t wait to move forward with it!
‘Harley Quinn’ Has Come a Long Way Since it Debuted
It’s hard to believe that Harley Quinn managed to make it to Season 5 given its rocky start. The series premiered in November 2019 on DC’s struggling streaming platform. Originally only planned for two seasons, with each season consisting of 13 episodes, the show wrapped up its initial run on June 26, 2020. With the low number of subscribers on DC Universe, which eventually shut down in January 2021, many thought this underappreciated series might not survive past Season 2, as the finale seemed to suggest a potential ending with Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy riding off together into the sunset.
The news that Season 3 of Harley Quinn would premiere was announced back in September 2020, three months following the finale of Season 2. Interestingly, Season 3 aired two years later, in July 2022. Despite the airing of other DC series like Titans, Doom Patrol, and Stargirl on the DC Universe app, Harley Quinn managed to outlive them all. Remarkably, it has persisted even through leadership changes at both DC and Warner Bros. A special Valentine’s Day episode was released between Seasons 3 and 4, and a spin-off series entitled Kite-Man: Hell Yeah! took over Harley Quinn’s spot on Max’s 2024 schedule.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my excitement about the future of Harley Quinn in the DC Universe. Although no formal announcements have been made regarding Season 6, the vibrant and comical world that Harley has created certainly shows no signs of slowing down.
The upcoming second season of Kite-Man: Hell Yeah!, scheduled for 2026, might pave the way for a potential Harley Quinn Season 6 in 2027. The captivating way Harley Quinn reimagines some of DC’s most iconic characters with a touch of humor has made it an essential part of DC’s rich history spanning over 87 years. It’s hard not to imagine this dynamic character continuing her journey for many more years to come!
