However, the trailer for Max’s upcoming releases omits our favorite series, stirring a sense of unease among fans about the future of these new episodes.
Previously, a TV show given approval would almost always reach screens. But nowadays, even finished series and films can be abruptly cancelled by production studios. For instance, Harley Quinn debuted in 2019 and garnered high ratings due to its adult-oriented humor and excessive violence within DC’s recent animated library. Yet, the uncertain state of affairs at DC Studios has kept the future of the series in question, and this recent announcement seems to indicate that its release remains uncertain as well.
Guided by Cuoco’s lively vocal portrayal, the series explores the mysterious Harley growing tired of being the Joker’s girlfriend, embarking on a personal odyssey filled with turmoil and self-discovery, accompanied by Poison Ivy (Lake Bell). In July 2023, Season 4 of Harley Quinn premiered, leaving viewers yearning for more of the intriguing tale between Harley and Ivy. It appears that fans may have to hold their breath a little longer than anticipated.
Has Max Scrapped Harley Quinn? Or is There a Less Final Reason for its Preview Absence?
The fact that Harley Quinn isn’t included in the MAX fall lineup trailer raises some concerns among fans, considering Warner Bros. Discovery’s tendency to put completed projects on hold. It might seem odd for a series as widely acclaimed as Harley Quinn to be missing from WBD’s Max promotion, but it doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the show. There could be various explanations why it’s not in the trailer at this time.
Although initially scheduled for a 2024 release and rumors indicating that Harley Quinn would debut on Max following Joker: Folie à Deux, the underwhelming box office performance of the movie might delay the animated series. Given that Lady Gaga’s portrayal of Harley Quinn hasn’t been met with overwhelming enthusiasm among comic book movie enthusiasts, DC Studios might choose to postpone another Harley Quinn project – including a successful adult series – until the negative impact of the film has subsided.
It appears that Harley Quinn’s fifth season might possibly debut before the end of 2024, avoiding the fate of projects like Batgirl. One potential reason for a delay until 2025 could be the release of James Gunn’s Creature Commandos series in December.
