Harris-Walz Campaign Taps Hollywood-Loved Designers Sergio Hudson, Aurora James, Thom Browne and More for Stylish Swag

As a fashion-forward supporter of progressive politics, I can’t help but be thrilled by this latest collaboration between Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz with some of Hollywood’s most beloved designers. The Designers for Democracy collection is more than just stylish apparel; it’s a powerful statement about the values we hold dear – reproductive rights, climate change, and voting awareness.

16 well-known fashion designers from the entertainment industry, including Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, have collaborated on a new line of products for sale.

After the popular Chappel Roan-inspired camouflage hat, the Harris-Walz campaign unveiled the Designers for Democracy line, which includes clothing and accessories from designers such as Sergio Hudson, Thom Browne, Joseph Altuzarra, and others. This collection was showcased due to its past popularity on Harris, along with former First Ladies Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton, as well as numerous celebrities.

2024 campaign merchandise ($35 to $85) highlights themes like reproductive freedom, climate action, and voting education. The collection includes items such as tees, tanks, long-sleeved shirts, hoodies, sweaters, tote bags, etc. Notable pieces include a Ulla Johnson floral terry cloth hoodie with “Our Bodies” and “Our Vote” on the sleeves, a Victor Glemaud tank top saying “we are not going back / kamala,” a Willy Chavarria gray sweater with “Kamala.” imprinted, and a black T-shirt by Cleo Wade featuring a young girl image of the Democratic presidential candidate with the words, “the first but not the last.”

Among the assortment of items I stumbled upon is a vintage “America Is an Idea” t-shirt, along with a couple of ribbed socks designed by Aurora James, who’s known for her work at Brother Vellies and The 15 Percent Pledge. Unfortunately, these pieces are already sold out. Tory Burch and Brett Heyman have also added graphic totes to the collection, while Thom Browne offers a scarf with an American flag-inspired design that reads “Let’s win this”. Gabriella Hearst has created a baseball cap and sweatshirt in ombré pink and purple hues, emblazoned with words such as “democracy”, “women’s rights” and “climate”. Bettina Benson from Chloe Kristyn presents a white tee adorned with the phrase “we choose freedom” over illustrated flowers. Additionally, Jonathan Cohen, Prabal Gurung, and Vera Wang have contributed their own designs to this collection.

As a devoted enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that these fabulous garments are proudly crafted in America, with unions handling the printing process. Excitingly, they’re currently up for pre-order, with deliveries scheduled for early October.

Meaghan Burdick, a top campaign advisor at Kamala HQ, shared with Vogue that Vice President Harris and Governor Tim Walz are striving for a future that fortifies our democracy, safeguards reproductive rights, and offers each individual the chance to prosper rather than merely survive. This aspiration is shared by Designers for Democracy, a group of esteemed American designers who back this vision and are determined to help elect Harris and Walz to the White House.

James shared on Instagram about his T-shirt design: “America is a stunning, enigmatic, and fruitful land. It’s more than just a place; it’s an ideal. This November, the answer to who America truly represents will be decided at polling stations nationwide. For far too long, individuals like me have been made to feel unwelcome here. But America is ours as much as we are hers. She is our home, she is our heart, and she is our collective dream.”

As a rising star in the fashion world, I’ve had the honor of dressing some truly remarkable women. Michelle Obama made headlines when she wore my entire plum ensemble for President Biden’s 2021 inauguration. Later that day, Kamala Harris dazzled in a custom sequin cocktail dress and tuxedo overcoat of mine during her first appearance as Vice President. More recently, she turned heads in a bright blue suit set at the 2024 Essence Festival of Culture. Even the former First Lady, Michelle Obama, chose a checkered tailored dress by me for President Barack Obama’s 2013 inauguration. Most recently, Hillary Clinton graced the red carpet of the 2022 Met Gala in a stunning gown designed by Altuzarra. It’s been quite a journey, and I feel grateful to be part of these historical moments.

The goods from Designers for Democracy can be purchased online at Kamalaharris.com, with the proceeds serving as contributions to the Harris Victory Fund.
