As a long-time fan and admirer of Harrison Ford, it’s awe-inspiring to witness his unwavering dedication to the art of acting and storytelling. His six decades in Hollywood are nothing short of remarkable, and he continues to prove that there’s no slowing down for this movie star legend.
Harrison Ford disagrees with the notion that no new movie stars are being created in Hollywood, given his long-standing career spanning over six decades. Instead of slowing down, he continues to push boundaries. Known for iconic roles like Han Solo in “Star Wars,” Ford is poised to make his entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, assuming the role of Thaddeus Ross in the upcoming film “Captain America: Brave New World.” Over the years, he has graced both big and small screens with performances in popular films like “The Fugitive,” “Air Force One,” and more recently, the Apple TV+ series “Shrinking.
Ford is indisputably a cinematic luminary, and some contend that he’s one of the last remaining in a waning category. When queried by GQ about Hollywood no longer nurturing movie stars, he dismissed it as nonsense, and defended the industry by asserting that talented actors continue to emerge every day.
It seems to me that the idea isn’t about whether there are any movie stars, as new talented actors emerge daily. The debate is more about whether they become famous movie stars, which is less significant. If movies require stars, they will find them. To be frank, I don’t grasp the concept of being a movie star. I am an actor, and my role is to narrate stories. I am simply an assistant storyteller, part of a team that collaborates on storytelling.
In recent times, actors such as Timothee Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Zendaya, and Austin Butler have become household names, starring in numerous hit films. Although the classic era of movie stars may have passed, there are indeed modern-day celebrities who can attract viewers to a movie – take, for instance, the duo of Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney in the seemingly doomed comedy “Anyone But You.
Who Does Harrison Ford Play in the MCU?
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Anthony Mackie (Ford) is set to assume the role of Thaddeus Ross, originally played by William Hurt from 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk” to 2021’s “Black Widow.” Regrettably, Hurt passed away in 2022. Notably, Ford’s character will transform into the Red Hulk in the upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World,” and he has expressed his enjoyment of embodying this transformation. The MCU hasn’t yet clarified where they are planning to take this character or if he will appear in future films. Given that Ford is 82 years old, it seems unlikely he would commit to a demanding schedule of multiple movies. However, since Red Hulk is a CGI character, Ford’s continued presence in the MCU may depend on whether Ross continues as his Hulk alter-ego, much like Mark Ruffalo has been playing Smart Hulk for several years.
After his introduction in “Brave New World,” it’s uncertain where the character of Thaddeus Ross might show up next. Known for his roles in more grounded Marvel productions such as “Captain America: Civil War,” he has also appeared in various Avengers films. At this point, there’s speculation about whether he will be part of the upcoming “Thunderbolts” next year, as the team’s name comes from Ross in Marvel Comics. However, it remains to be seen where else we might see him, whether as a human or his Hulk counterpart – a secret that only Kevin Feige appears to be privy to at this moment.
