In the upcoming Marvel movie “Captain America: Brave New World,” set for release this month, one of the exciting aspects is the introduction of Red Hulk. When asked about stepping into the role previously held by The Hulk, Harrison Ford‘s response certainly fits his character.
At a London gathering showcasing “Brave New World” (through On Demand Entertainment), Harrison Ford was queried about his depiction of Red Hulk. Given that Mark Ruffalo has largely owned the concept of ‘Hulking out’ in recent years, Ford was asked if Ruffalo had given any tips or suggestions. In a manner consistent with his trademark dry and humorous demeanor, Ford humorously replied:
He wasn’t available for a consultation. I just had to wing it. I hope he’s not disappointed.
In simpler terms, Ford delved into discussing the idea of having an expectation and a sense of responsibility to live up to those who came before you, which is fitting considering this movie revolves around Sam trying to fill the void left by Steve Rogers. The film’s themes, from costumes to behind-the-scenes conversations, reflect the expectations and pressures one feels when standing in someone’s shadow. To put it another way, just like Brave New World, the movie speaks of these burdens. Lastly, I share Ford’s hope that Mark Ruffalo is satisfied with his portrayal as the Red Hulk.
The film has sparked some complex debates, with people online drawing parallels between Ford’s character, President Ross, and President Trump. Co-star Anthony Mackie, who previously commented on the political comparison, stated that the discussion is unnecessarily politicizing the movie. However, more controversy arose over the weekend when Mackie discussed Captain America’s symbolism in an interview, leading to widespread criticism.
Critics’ opinions about Captain America: Brave New World are still under wraps, so it remains to be seen if Ford has done justice to the iconic role of Captain America. Regardless, I have high hopes that the movie will prove to be an enjoyable watch.
Regarding Mark Ruffalo, he recently appeared as Bruce Banner/Hulk in “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”. As for his future appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. However, there are whispers suggesting that a “World War Hulk” film might be under construction.
