As a lifelong Harry Potter fan who has grown up with these magical stories, I can hardly contain my excitement as we inch closer to the start of HBO’s television series adaptation next summer! With over 32,000 children auditioning for the roles and a team diligently viewing between 500-1,000 per day, it’s clear that they’re taking their casting seriously.
The HBO’s Harry Potter TV show is moving forward with its cast selection, perfectly timed for filming that starts the following summer.
During a Max 2025 presentation last Thursday with Casey Bloys, some key members of the show’s creative crew disclosed a progress report about the project. They mentioned their intention to begin filming around the middle of summer in the year 2025.
32,000 young hopefuls tried out for the child roles, including the lead character of Harry Potter. The production team intends to review each and every audition, with a team screening approximately 500 to 1,000 videos daily.
As a dedicated fan, I can share that while no definitive decisions have been reached yet, there’s an exciting lineup being considered, which we’ll be refining in January. And let me tell you, some of these potential cast members are truly outstanding! Our aim is to draw from the crème de la crème of British acting talent, celebrating this rich tradition of exceptional stage actors. Needless to say, we’re keeping faithful to the books and their canonical casting choices.
As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that Francesca Gardiner, the brilliant mind behind the series, has revealed their intention to stay true to the characters’ original ages. This includes our beloved Professor Severus Snape, who was 31 years old, and the youthful duo, Lily and James Potter, both aged 21.
Regarding the role of Snape, it was mentioned by Mylod that “while no one can take the place of Alan Rickman, we can find another actor like him.” The actor who portrayed the Potion’s master in the initial Harry Potter movies passed away in 2016 at the age of 69.
The series, scheduled to premiere in 2026 on Max, offers a tantalizing glimpse into previously unseen corners of Hogwarts. Mylod hints that the production will emphasize a realistic approach rather than the artistic flair seen in the movies.
More to come.
