As a long-time Harry Potter fan and avid gamer, I must admit that the return of James and Oliver Phelps to the magical world of Hogwarts for the Food Network’s Wizards of Baking series was nothing short of enchanting. Being able to revisit the iconic sets, especially the Great Hall, brought back a flood of nostalgic memories from my childhood spent immersed in J.K. Rowling’s wondrous universe.
Following their roles as Fred and George Weasley in the cherished Harry Potter series, fans can now see James and Oliver Phelps revisit the Harry Potter film sets for Food Network’s Wizards of Baking television show. With fresh episodes of this competitive cooking program becoming available weekly to Max subscribers, TopMob recently interviewed the twins about their memorable experiences returning to Hogwarts.
The series features ten duos (comprised of skilled bakers and chocolatiers), who create breathtaking homages to the magical universe, in a bid to claim the inaugural Wizards of Baking Trophy and secure a spot in the upcoming Harry Potter cookbook. During our conversation, Oliver Phelps shared his thoughts on revisiting the original sets for the production of the cooking program:
For the first time since our filming days, we returned to the sets and it felt as if no time had passed at all. I recall on the final day when we were shooting the finale scene in the Great Hall; it was a bittersweet moment because I never imagined I’d be back there filming again, especially not like that. It was truly heartwarming to have the opportunity to return and even better that some fellow cast members could join me. To make it even more special, we had Harry Potter fans in the Great Hall along with the Bakers showcasing their extraordinary designs. It was a unique experience to go back and be part of that once again.
It’s not hard to guess that the actors portraying the Weasley twins were quite thrilled, given they were performing in the very Great Hall where numerous memorable scenes from the film series unfolded. Unfortunately for us, this significant location is saved for the finale, but considering the excitement generated by the Wizards of Baking trailer and hints that some original cast members will reunite in the Hogwarts dining hall, it seems like it’ll be well worth the wait.
In addition to loving the Great Hall, there was an exciting incident during filming the series. This took place when a baker, who happened to be a Harry Potson fan, stumbled upon another iconic location from the movies – the Forbidden Forest. As James Phelps mentioned:
In a different take: We didn’t physically fire shots for the movies, instead, we were present during filming on that location, and let me tell you, it looks stunning! It has an amazing vibe, you can truly sense the atmosphere. I recall Lisa being particularly thrilled about this, as she’s a massive Harry Potter fan and knows everything related to it. When we arrived, she was practically vibrating with excitement, so it was fascinating to witness her enthusiasm.

The enchanted woods known as the Forbidden Forest played a crucial role in the Harry Potter films, given its perilous nature brimming with an array of mystical beings that posed challenges to Harry, Hermione, and Ron. Interestingly, the Phelps twins claimed they didn’t feature in any scenes within the forest, but their recollection of how deeply one competitor was impacted by its presence remains quite striking for them.
That’s one especially fun element of the series in general. Seeing the Phelps’ twins interact with the baking wizards is wonderful, and we can’t wait to see them geek out as the competition continues. During the interview, James Phelps also talked about how the late Maggie Smith played into the series after her death at the age of 89 in September. So, it’s clear that the Harry Potter legacy is being honored and celebrated on these epic sets.
Currently, you have the option to watch the first installment right away on Max. Don’t forget to tune in for the subsequent episode, which will be broadcast this coming Thursday according to our 2024 television schedule.
