The cast members from the Harry Potter movies are frequently asked if they might reappear in HBO’s potential Harry Potter series. Interestingly, one actor has already been confirmed for a return. Recently, we learned which performers will embody some of the main Hogwarts faculty, and among them is Paul Whitehouse, who takes on the role of Argus Filch. However, this isn’t his inaugural visit to the magical world…
Following months of buzz surrounding the castings of Snape, McGonagall, and more, we’ve finally received some concrete updates! The highly-anticipated Harry Potter series has now confirmed several crucial Hogwarts staff members, and here are the exciting revelations: John Lithgow will be stepping into Dumbledore’s magical shoes, Janet McTeer will grace us as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu will take on the role of Snape, Nick Frost will bring Hagrid’s lovable nature to life, Luke Thallon will embody Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse will portray the ever-so-familiar face of Filch. Today, I want to shine a spotlight on the last name in that list.
It’s fantastic news that Paul Whitehouse will be taking on the role of Filch in the upcoming Harry Potter series. He follows in the footsteps of the esteemed David Bradley, and I, for one, am eagerly anticipating his interpretation of the enigmatic and somewhat unsettling caretaker of Hogwarts. What makes this news even more exciting is Whitehouse’s previous involvement with the Harry Potter films.

In the Harry Potter series, Ralph Fiennes was inquired about who would be suitable to portray Voldemort. He openly expressed the actor he strongly supports.
2004 saw Richard Griffiths gracefully appear in one of the top-tier Harry Potter films, specifically “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” In this movie, he embodied Sir Cadogan, a character who spent most of his time within the paintings, being part of the numerous animated portraits at Hogwarts School.
In the movie, Sirius Black secretly enters Hogwarts, leaving the painting of the Fat Lady guarding the Gryffindor common room damaged. If you examine the portraits lining the stairway carefully, a knight appears to be hurriedly moving about in the background – it’s likely that character (as shown in the image atop this article).
In addition, some deleted scenes (as reported by ScreenRant) highlight his prominence, such as one in which he assumes control of guarding the door on behalf of his painted comrade. However, this action draws displeasure from the students due to his persistent alterations of the password.

Although Paul Whitehouse had minimal involvement in “Prisoner of Azkaban,” he won’t appear at all in the series. Filch, an integral member of the Hogwarts staff, is constantly vigilant for mischievous students with his cat, Mrs. Norris. Thus, it’s certain that we’ll be witnessing more of Paul Whitehouse in this fresh “Harry Potter” adaptation.
Yet, it’s intriguing to imagine him traversing the paintings as depicted in the film, particularly because he can now freely roam the real corridors of the school within the series.
Apart from his role in “Harry Potter,” Paul Whitehouse is primarily recognized for his performances in “The Fast Show” and providing voices for characters in Tim Burton films such as “Corpse Bride,” “Alice in Wonderland,” and both “Alice Through the Looking Glass.”
Or, more casually:
Paul Whitehouse is widely known beyond “Harry Potter” for acting in “The Fast Show,” and lending his voice to characters in Tim Burton films like “Corpse Bride,” “Alice in Wonderland,” and both “Alice Through the Looking Glass.

On Max, you can currently stream all the Harry Potter movies, and soon, the entire series will be available too. Therefore, getting a Max subscription seems like an excellent choice. The plans start from as low as $9.99 per month, and if you opt for a yearly payment, you could save up to 20%. Take advantage of this deal now!
In summary, it’s fascinating to learn this tidbit about the Harry Potter universe expansion, and I’m rather eager for further casting updates as they finalize the cast. It seems probable that the younger characters will be portrayed by new actors. Nevertheless, there’s a chance with the more mature roles, such as the Hogwarts faculty, to select performers who have ties to the initial franchise while still offering a fresh take on significant parts like Whitehouse does.
As a movie enthusiast, if you’d like to catch a sneak peek of Paul Whitehouse in action, you can stream “Harry Potter” with a Max subscription. Don’t forget to stay tuned for updates about the series, as that’s where we’ll truly witness this talented actor leaving his indelible mark on Hogwarts!
