Harvey Weinstein Claims Innocence on Candace Owens’ Show: “Women Should Be Heard, But I’m Wrongfully Convicted”

During his appearance on Candace Owens’ program, Harvey Weinstein repeatedly asserted his innocence as he stands before the court for a second trial on charges of rape and two counts of criminal sexual activity.

In a highly anticipated interview, right-wing pundit Owens asserts it’s the first on-camera interview Harvey Weinstein has given since eight years ago, and this discussion was released yesterday. This interview coincided with the third witness, Jessica Mann, testifying in Weinstein’s trial concerning an alleged 2013 rape incident. Additionally, Weinstein is currently facing criminal charges related to three separate incidents: one involving Jessica Mann, where he is accused of rape; another involving Miriam Haley who alleges forced oral sex at his Tribeca apartment in 2006; and a third from Kaja Sokola, who claims he forced oral sex on her at a Manhattan hotel in the same year.

It’s uncommon for a defendant in a criminal trial to grant an interview while the trial is ongoing, and it’s reported that Weinstein’s legal team only learned about the project afterwards.

Juda Engelmayer, representing Weinstein, mentioned that they are still engaged in ongoing conversations with Weinstein regarding his potential participation in the court proceedings. The prosecution aims to conclude their presentation by May 28th.

Weinstein initiated his conversation with Owens by reading aloud from a prepared statement, admitting “errors” he had made, yet asserting that he was not guilty of the alleged “crimes.

Weinstein expressed that women’s voices should be respected, yet he is currently undergoing a retrial due to an earlier conviction being overturned on appeal. He emphasizes the importance of justice, which requires a thorough and honest examination of each case, and asserts his commitment to fairness and truth.

I acknowledge I’ve made errors, there’s no denying that. I caused pain to my loved ones, my friends, and even my wife, through a betrayal that was both wrong and regrettable. I offer my sincere apologies to everyone who unintentionally suffered as a result, including the Messick family and Jill Messick in particular. However, I maintain my innocence regarding these accusations. I solemnly swear by God and those present here, as well as for the sake of my family, that I did not commit these crimes. Justice must recognize the distinction between what is morally wrong and what is illegal.”

Weinstein further emphasized this point, echoing a statement made earlier by his lawyer during the retrial’s opening arguments.

Later on, he mentioned that he had little to add concerning the case, given its current status, but Weinstein also touched upon how some of his previous associates have distanced themselves from him.

They’re absolutely terrified, fearing they might face cancellation or lose their ability to work. I encouraged my associates to speak up and testify during the trial, but unfortunately, no one did.

Inquired about Gwyneth Paltrow, who discussed Harvey Weinstein and claimed he made an advance towards her in a hotel room, with Brad Pitt, her boyfriend at the time, reportedly warning him to stay away. Weinstein denied this account as a “fabrication”, but admitted to making a move on her during a meeting.

At the conclusion of our gathering, we shared a flute of champagne. As I exited, I told her, “I’d be delighted if you could give me a massage.” She responded with a casual ‘Sure’, and that was the end of it. There was no physical contact between us. However, in hindsight, my remark could undeniably be seen as making a pass at her. You might say that describes the gist of the incident. In fact, Pitt did ring me up afterwards to caution, “Please refrain from repeating such behavior.

During the interview, Weinstein expressed frustration over being labeled the symbol of the #MeToo movement, stating “They wanted me, and they wanted me imprisoned for life.” He further criticized the reporting by The New York Times regarding the accusations against him from women such as Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan. Additionally, he pointed out the movie ‘She Said,’ which had Brad Pitt involved as a producer.

“Initially, I had my reservations when it premiered, as its poor performance was expected. The movie made a mere $2.5 million during its debut weekend, which is catastrophic. It later earned around $4 to $5 million. This suggests that perhaps the audience has little interest in me or at least in this specific case,” he explained.

Although Weinstein has been a longtime supporter of the Democratic party and a friend to the Clintons, he also commends Owen, who claims her project aims to clear his name, as well as Rogan, who endorsed Trump in the last election, for their backing, following their assertions that Weinstein is innocent.

Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that Owens was let go from The Daily Wire, a conservative media platform run by Ben Shapiro, due to her past record of harsh anti-Semitism, as reported by the Anti-Defamation League. Previously, during a livestream, she discussed an interaction with Weinstein where he inquired about her stance on Kanye West, who has made several antisemitic remarks. Interestingly, she mentioned that Weinstein himself had donated to the ADL.

According to Engelmayer’s statement, Weinstein’s legal team commended Owens’ method during the interview.

Candace approached this topic with an impartiality often lacking in media reporting. She carefully studied the evidence, scrutinized transcripts, and delved into the complete context. This resulted in her providing a valuable, balanced perspective that cut through the clamor, offering insights seldom discussed,” Engelmayer stated to The Hollywood Reporter.

It’s been a long time coming for Harvey’s voice to be shared. His unique viewpoint, his personal journey, and the inaccuracies in how his situation has been presented needed to surface. Although we wished this would have happened earlier, we are heartened that he is now speaking openly about it,” Engelmayer expressed.
