As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the enchanting worlds of Studio Ghibli, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming “Hayao Miyazaki Image Board Series” by Iwanami Shoten! Having grown up with these timeless masterpieces, it feels like a dream come true to have a chance to peer behind the scenes and witness the early pre-production illustrations that breathed life into some of my most cherished characters.
An upcoming book, published by Iwanami Shoten in Japan, will showcase the illustration boards from Studio Ghibli’s renowned director, Hayao Miyazaki.
This upcoming book is going to feature a mix of well-known and never-before-seen artwork collections from various Studio Ghibli films. It will also include an exclusive interview with Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki. Each book in the series will concentrate on one Studio Ghibli film, providing a look at the initial sketches that formed the foundation of its stunning visual elements. To preserve the enchanting quality of these artwork collections, each page will be quite large, measuring approximately 12.8 by 10.1 inches.
According to SoraNews24, it appears that the books will come out based on the sequence of the films’ releases, starting first with Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Laputa: Castle in the Sky, and then My Neighbor Totoro will follow.
The Hayao Miyazaki Image Board Collection is set to debut this December. On December 5, you’ll be able to watch Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Laputa: Castle in the Sky. In March 2025, My Neighbor Totoro will become available. The prices for these volumes vary from about $28 USD to $32 USD. You can place your order through the Iwanami Shoten webstore.
