HBO’s ‘Lanterns’ Adds Poorna Jagannathan to Cast

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for comic book adaptations, I can’t help but feel my heart race at the latest casting news for HBO’s “Lanterns.” The addition of Poorna Jagannathan to the already stellar cast is nothing short of exhilarating. With her impressive resume, including roles in shows like “Never Have I Ever,” “The Night Of,” and “Deli Boys,” she brings a depth and versatility that will undoubtedly breathe life into her character, Zoe.

HBO‘s Lanterns is expanding its cast with the addition of Poorna Jagannathan.

The actress who plays the lead role in “Never Have I Ever” has been cast for a recurring part in a show produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television. Her character, Zoe, is portrayed as a woman who exudes confidence and poise in any situation, and possesses the same composure and cunningness as the powerful men she associates with.

The show “Lanterns” is inspired by DC Comics’ enduring Green Lantern series and features Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, two iconic characters from the comics’ extensive lore. HBO secured the series in June following a lengthy process of on-again, off-again development.

Although the Green Lantern comics span across galaxies, the upcoming series titled “Lanterns” will be set on earth with a moody and atmospheric feel. The plot summary can be encapsulated as, “The show follows John Stewart, a new recruit, and Hal Jordan, a legendary Lantern, who are both interstellar law enforcers. They find themselves entangled in a grim, earthbound mystery when they’re tasked with investigating a murder that occurs in the heart of America.

Kelly Macdonald and Garret Dillahunt have also been cast.

Chris Mundy, known for his work on ‘Ozark’, is serving as the showrunner for the series ‘Lanterns’. He’s teaming up with Damon Lindelof, recognized for his work on ‘Lost’ and ‘Watchmen’, and Tom King, a recipient of the Eisner Award in comics writing, to co-write the eight-episode season. They are also serving as executive producers, with James Hawes directing the initial two episodes.

For four seasons, Jagannathan shone on Netflix’s “Never Have I Ever” and more recently appeared in Apple TV+’s movie “Wolves”. Her resume also features roles in HBO’s “The Night Of”, as well as the upcoming series on Hulu and Onyx Collective, titled “Deli Boys”. She is represented by Gersh, Untitled Entertainment, and Hansen Jacobson.
