HBO’s Lanterns Casts Jason Ritter, Shocking Twist for Hal Jordan’s Love Life!

Following an intense and captivating introduction through Creature Commandos, James Gunn’s DCU is set to ignite screens with the David Corenswet-starring Superman. However, it would not be truthful if I did not admit that I am more eagerly anticipating HBO’s Lanterns series compared to most 2025 television programs. Boasting a wealth of talented creators, including renowned comic author Tom King, the show boasts an impressive roster of both established characters (such as the villainous Sinestro) and fresh ones. Additionally, the newest cast member appears to complicate romantic speculation surrounding Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan.

Lanterns Reportedly Cast Matlock Star And Gravity Falls Vet Jason Ritter

Jason Ritter, well-known TV personality and son of the late John Ritter, is said to have joined the cast of “Lanterns”. While it’s tempting to imagine this as a bizarre crossover with “Gravity Falls”, such an idea seems implausible. However, if the reports are accurate, this could complicate previous speculations about Hal Jordan’s romantic relationships.

As per The Insider (via ComicBookMovie), Ritter is set to feature in an upcoming DC TV series, taking on a currently unnamed character who is married to the role played by Kelly MacDonald from Boardwalk Empire. Earlier, it was announced that she would portray Sheriff Kerry, a dedicated individual to her hometown and family, with Ritter appearing to be the central figure of this family in the series.

How This Casting Potentially Affects Hal Jordan’s Story

Before it was officially announced that Kelly MacDonald would join the cast, there had been whispers about her role, with many speculating accurately that she would play a key law enforcement character in the show. However, these rumors also suggested that her character might be romantically involved with Hal Jordan, leading to further discussions among comic fans about whether or not this character could be a new take on someone from the original source material.

Initially, it was believed that she would be filling in for Carol Ferris, who has historically been Hal’s main love interest and later assumed the role of Star Sapphire. Interestingly, Carol was played by Blake Lively in the 2011 film Green Lantern, which Ryan Reynolds is known for, and they continue to be a couple. However, since Kerry is a sheriff, there were already questions about whether she would take on this role, and now that Ritter has been cast as her husband, it leaves one questioning the origins of those early rumors.

It seems possible that since Ritter’s character might not be an ideal husband, this could lead his badge-carrying wife to lean towards Hal Jordan, given his muscular stature. This could be plausible if Ritter is heavily involved in Matlock and may only appear for a limited number of Green Lantern episodes. However, it’s all just speculation on my part. There’s a chance that he might receive a Green Lantern ring at some point during the series.

In all honesty, it seems fitting that only Connie Britton, Kyle Chandler’s co-star from Friday Night Lights, should take on the role of his love interest in Lanterns. Keeping our hearts full and clear like high school football. Oops, that sounds more like a pep talk! Let me rephrase: It seems appropriate that only Connie Britton, Kyle Chandler’s former co-star from Friday Night Lights, would be the ideal choice to play his love interest in Lanterns, considering the deep connection they shared on screen.

I can’t help but ponder if we’ll get a glimpse of Jason Ritter in the upcoming series ‘Lanterns’, or if we’ll spot him first in the much-anticipated cameo he’s been linked to in ‘Yellowjackets’, where his real-life partner, Melanie Lynskey, is a star. Time will tell, so keep an eye out for casting updates as we eagerly await the premiere of the first official ‘Lanterns’ trailer.
