HBO’s Penguin Confirms Where Batman Is (Or Isn’t)

HBO's Penguin Confirms Where Batman Is (Or Isn't)

As a seasoned gamer and long-time Batman fanatic who’s spent countless hours navigating the dark alleys of Gotham City, I must admit that the news about Batman’s potential absence from “The Penguin” has left me slightly disheartened. However, if there’s one thing I’ve learned from playing Batman Arkham games, it’s that the Caped Crusader always seems to show up when you least expect him. So maybe, just maybe, he’ll make a surprise appearance in the series after all!

In a twist, “The Penguin” series seems to have its origins in “Batman,” but it’s clear that Batman won’t be involved in the initial action. On social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), an account @BatSource1 shared what appears to be a replica of the Gotham Gazette newspaper. Warner Brothers have hinted at a promotional edition of the Gotham Gazette being distributed with the Sunday New York Times on September 19th.

In this fictional newspaper, there’s a political cartoon showing Jim Gordon (played by Jeffrey Wright) trying to use the Bat-Signal to summon Batman. A fellow officer with him remarks, “It’s been weeks, sir.” This raises questions: Has Batman (portrayed by Robert Pattinson) mysteriously stopped working? Or could it be that they’re having a disagreement? Regardless, it seems Batman hasn’t been picking up the Batphone for the Gotham City Police Department these days. In other words, it looks like Batman won’t be making an appearance on “The Penguin” series anytime soon.

Certainly,

Batman’s whereabouts aren’t the only tidbits of info spilled

The apparent New York Times insert also includes a handful of further details about what might be afoot during “The Penguin.” An article shows that Gotham has a new district attorney, though he’s not named. Blackgate Penitentiary has seen some tumultuous times, with all-encompassing riots reported in the wake of the Riddler’s (Paul Dano) terrorist attack. The Riddler has also inspired an escape room, which has inspired some protest. Additionally, Alberto Falcone (Michael Zengen), the family’s youngest, is indulging in some hard-partying antics.

In addition, there’s a power and water shortage unfolding in Crown Point. Whether this predicament is due to the Penguin or someone else’s fault isn’t clear yet, but it seems the series will explore the turbulent aftermath of the Riddler’s imprisonment. These subtle hints only intensify the “Sopranos”-like atmosphere that viewers have been sensing from the show’s previews and teasers. Moreover, it appears that the series will indeed provide a glimpse into the gritty politics on Gotham’s city streets, as previously suggested.

In a final addendum, mold appears to be infesting Gotham’s dwellings. Audiences will find out what, if any, bearing this will have on the plot when “The Penguin” debuts on September 19.
