As a long-time fan of Helldivers 2, I couldn’t contain my excitement when the Escalation of Freedom update was announced! The trailer alone had me on the edge of my seat, with its ominous music and tantalizing glimpses of new content.
As a long-time fan of Helldivers, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming major update, Escalation of Freedom! Having spent countless hours battling aliens and defending Earth, I can attest to the game’s ability to both challenge and entertain. With this new expansion on the horizon, I eagerly anticipate the escalation of action, strategy, and fun.
Escalation of Freedom release date
The “Freedom Update: Escalation” is set for release on August 6, which is just two weeks after the initial announcement.
Escalation of Freedom update explained
New difficulty level
One notable enhancement in this latest release is the significantly increased level of difficulty, offering an extraordinarily challenging experience for gamers.
In the video’s preview, the creators explain that this new stage provides a genuine advancement from the last one, with an increased number of adversaries to confront, as well as an expanded outpost offering greater benefits.
New enemies
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed that both the Terminids and Automatons have been quite active lately in the game world. Brace yourselves, as we’re about to encounter some fresh enemy types that will challenge our gaming skills and demand new strategies! Here are the confirmed adversaries:
- Impaler (Terminids) – “Stabby” tentacles that rise out of the ground and cut off your escape
- Spore Charger (Terminids) – A Charger that brings a moving spore fog with it
- Artillery Tank (Automatons) – A tank that fires artillery direct at you, or in an arc like a mortar
- Heavy Brood Commanders (Terminids) – An enhanced version of the Brood Commander that spawns different enemy types than the regular one
The developers have not yet announced any additional enemy types, but based on the trailer’s mention of “surprises” for players, it’s plausible that new foes may appear.
New planet type & hazard
A fresh take on the swamp setting is now available, boasting an eerier and more suspenseful ambiance. Picture a revamped Louisiana Bayou akin to that in Resident Evil 7, but this time with extraterrestrial creatures lurking instead of just zombies.
As a fan, I’m thrilled about the latest upgrade to the acid storm weather effect. Now, it not only weakens enemy armor but also affects Helldivers’. This results in increased damage inflicted on both sides, making it more exciting to take down massive hordes. However, beware, as this also means we’re more vulnerable and easier to eliminate.
New missions & objectives
As a gamer, I’m excited to explore the latest update where new objectives await me after landing on a planet. The developers have mentioned multiple objectives in total, though only showed one in the trailer.
In the Terminid mission called “Retrieve Larva,” your objective is to find a backpack containing a distressed larva, then carefully take it out. However, be prepared for a challenge! The sound of the larva’s cries will draw enemies towards you, keeping you on high alert from start to finish as you work to complete the extraction.
As a gamer, I’d describe it like this: In the trailer, there’s a quick peek at a new type of mission. It shows a machine with a drill working on some mysterious liquid. The liquid then gets filtered into smaller containers. Based on what I’ve experienced in the game so far, I believe this could be an Automaton mission, but the details remain hidden for now.
What else is there?
The developer has indicated that not all features of the Escalation of Freedom update have been disclosed, and there may be some unexpected elements in store for us. We’ll need to refer to the patch notes for further details.
