Henry Cavill Reveals First Official Look at His Crowd-Pleasing Deadpool & Wolverine Cameo

As a seasoned cinema enthusiast with over three decades of movie-going under my belt, I must say that the casting of Henry Cavill as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine has me positively giddy with excitement! Having followed Cavill’s career since his days as Superman, it’s a dream come true to see him embrace the rugged, cigar-chomping side of mutantkind.

It’s no secret that Deadpool & Wolverine is bursting with crowd-pleasing cameos, and one of the most exciting for Marvel fans is the sudden appearance of Man of Steel and The Witcherstar Henry Cavill as a variant of Wolverine. Cavill has now broken his silence on taking on the role of the fan-favourite X-Men member (the only other actor to do so in live-action aside from Hugh Jackman) taking to social media to share our first official look at his take on the sideburns sporting, cigar-chomping mutant.

For quite some time, Cavill has been adored by fans as Wolverine, and he certainly possesses a rugged appearance. In an image, Cavill hinted at the well-known “mustache-incident” that occurred during the production of the DC film Justice League, stating, “To ensure safety, I shaved off only the mustache for this role.”

In a montage scene of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the actor who played Superman makes an appearance. During this sequence, Deadpool traverses various universes in search of a Wolverine counterpart to bring back home. Although Cavill’s screen time is limited, Marvel fans have been enthusiastic about his portrayal and are advocating for him to assume the role of the character within the MCU from now on.

Playing Wolverine Made Henry Cavill Feel Sick

In addition to the initial picture, we now have some details about how the casting of Wolverine became reality, as director Shawn Levy shared that Ryan Reynolds coined the nickname “Cavillrine.” The actor was so committed to his role that he even fell ill during filming. Levy shared this information with the New York Times…

It seems that during the entire filming day, even our fellow actor Henry Cavill – renowned for his muscular build and ever-present cigar – endured an exhausting ordeal. The following day, it was rumored that he had fallen ill due to inhaling cigar smoke for eight continuous hours. Remarkably, throughout this prolonged experience, there wasn’t a moment where Henry showed any signs of faltering.

It appears that Cavill showed the same eagerness as numerous Marvel fans when it comes to portraying Wolverine in films, promptly agreeing to the cameo upon being asked. Levy disclosed this information to Variety.

“To discuss him appropriately, we should refer to him by the name given by Ryan, The Cavillerine – a nickname that Ryan created. I was certain it was fitting when Ryan first suggested it. He agreed readily because he knew it would be both challenging and fun. It was also a heartfelt nod to his work and his character as a DC hero, now reimagined in the Marvel universe.”

Under the direction of Shawn Levy, who collaborated on the screenplay with Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells, the film titled Deadpool & Wolverine features Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. This action-packed story brings them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), where they’re given a unique assignment by the Time Variance Authority (TVA). Their task takes them on an exciting journey through the chaos of multiple realities.
