After Paresh Rawal‘s portrayal of the character, audiences began to view him in a similar light. Eventually, the actor found himself feeling restricted by this image and yearned for freedom from it. Paresh Rawal took on the role of Babu Bhaiya in the popular Hera Pheri series. Despite continuing to receive affection for his performance years later, he once felt trapped and smothered. During an interview with The Lallantop, the experienced actor confessed, “It feels like a necktie around my neck.
In 2006, following the release of Phir Hera Pheri, Rawal approached filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj with an idea for a movie. The actor expressed his desire to break free from the image of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte by playing a new character in the same costume. According to him, only Vishal had the ability to bring this unique concept to life.
When the Omkara director enquired about his intentions, Rawal expressed that everyone who approaches him is thinking of Hera Pheri, but as an actor, he doesn’t wish to be confined within that image. However, since Bharadwaj couldn’t assist him, in 2022, he sought out another renowned filmmaker, R. Balki, instead.
In a conversation with the director of Pad Man, the OMG actor expressed his desire for a different role in similar attire, saying he felt constrained. He told the filmmaker, “I feel suffocated.” Later, he confessed that he’s glad people appreciate his character, but he longs for freedom from it.
In the near future, Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty are teaming up once more to take on their familiar characters in the upcoming comedy, Hera Pheri 3. As previously reported by TopMob, this film directed by Priyadarshan is scheduled for release in the year 2026.
