Here’s why Bhumi Pednekar feels The Royals is mixture of ‘modern-day Bridgerton and Schitt’s Creek’

Actress Bhumi Pednekar has shared insights about her forthcoming web series titled The Royals. According to Pednekar, the show is a fusion of popular series such as Bridgerton and Schitt’s Creek, offering a blend of contemporary royal drama, humor, and romance. In an interview with PTI, she explained that it delves into the complexities of a troubled Indian royal family in today’s world.

In the Netflix show, Ishaan Khatter plays Aviraaj Singh, a prince who is reluctant yet determined to transform his ancestral mansion, traditionally known as a haveli, into a high-end bed & breakfast establishment.

In the series, Bhumi Pednekar takes on the role of Sophia Shekhar, a self-reliant and ambitious CEO who collaborates with Aviraaj in their joint endeavor. According to the official summary of the show, the plot offers an engaging mix of comedy, romance, and drama.

According to reports, Pednekar compared the series’ atmosphere and construction to Bridgerton, praising its lavish scenery and vintage allure. At the same time, she pointed out that the show’s complex family relationships resembled those in Schitt’s Creek.

Additionally, she pointed out that while the show has a contemporary feel, it still captures the allure of old-fashioned romance tales she loved as a youngster, reminiscent of Mills & Boon books. Yet, she emphasized that The Royals deviates from the conventional “damsel in distress” archetype by featuring a stronger female protagonist instead.

This show, produced by Rangita and Ishita Pritish Nandy, with Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana at the helm, delves into broader societal topics. It engages in discussions about privilege, shifting power dynamics, and modern phenomena like the emergence of artificial intelligence and the entourage of influencers.

Regarding artificial intelligence, Pednekar described it as a significant “disruptor” and underscored the need for its ethical application.

In my perspective as a lifestyle expert, I find myself constantly pondering over the breathtaking pace at which technology is advancing, particularly in creative realms. Frankly, I’m not convinced that artificial intelligence can mimic the nuanced sensitivity and profound emotional depth that humans possess.

Moreover, I raise a red flag about the current absence of comprehensive regulation. This vacuum creates potential risks, with deep fakes becoming increasingly sophisticated and challenging to distinguish from reality. These are significant concerns that demand our attention.

Besides Pednekar and Khatter, The Royals boasts a robust collection of talented actors such as Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Panday, and many more.
