Heron Preston Launches Project “Orange Label”

As a seasoned gamer who has seen countless fashion trends come and go, I must admit that Heron Preston‘s “Orange Label” under L.E.D Studio has piqued my interest. Having followed his journey since the DSNY project “UNIFORM,” I find his approach to fashion as a test kitchen for ideas truly intriguing.

Heron Preston is now unveiling his much-anticipated “Orange Label” as part of his L.E.D Studio venture. Aspiring to build upon the foundation laid by his DSNY project “UNIFORM,” Orange Label serves as a platform for the designer to explore and respond to the contemporary question: “What constitutes purity in fashion today, and how can this concept be translated into the most stylish forms?

Orange Label serves as a creative playground for the designer, a place where concepts are freely experimented upon. When Preston initiated the “UNIFORM” project in 2016, he crafted pieces from the collaborative exhibit with DSNY, labeling them distinctively orange. This collection was showcased at The Costume Institute’s exhibition titled “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” in 2021 at the MET and eventually added to their permanent collection. Even after the “UNIFORM” project, there were numerous surplus labels left over from the original collection.

Heron has retrieved the labels from storage and is now using them for his latest “Orange Label” t-shirts. One side of the label showcases a print related to the 2016 project “UNIFORM,” while the other side remains empty, enabling it to start anew. In its simplest form, the orange label signifies a fresh start.

The “Orange Label” assortment includes two unadorned shirts, one in pristine white and another in pristine black. These basic designs, without any graphics on either side, are custom-made collaborations with EVERYBODY.WORLD. Each shirt is individually stamped by hand with the L.E.D. logo, the purchase date, “Made in USA,” and a unique number, making each label exclusive. The collection is limited to 300 items and will be available at L.E.D. Studio on December 12 at 10 a.m. EST, with further limited releases scheduled over the next few months until they sell out.
