After a gap of approximately two and a half months following the winter finale cliffhanger, “Tracker” is set to resume on CBS’s 2025 TV lineup. In the last episode, we saw Colter pursuing a potentially fruitful yet violent trail in his mission to locate Gina, who has been missing for years. The upcoming episodes will delve into whether Colter can successfully carry out this quest, given his long-standing pursuit of this mystery. Justin Hartley, the show’s lead actor, recently shared insights with TopMob about the season premiere and why Colter remains undeterred. And it seems that the new season promises to be thrilling!
For those following Season 2 of the hit drama airing on CBS or streaming through Paramount+, it’s clear that the captivating narrative revolves around the mystery of Gina Picket’s disappearance ten years ago. The character Colter is growing more and more frantic in his quest to uncover the truth about his sister, a role skillfully portrayed by Floriana Lima from A Million Little Things. However, unlike some weekly episodes of Tracker, the storyline doesn’t always end with “To Be Continued.
As a devoted film enthusiast, I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Justin Hartley before the winter premiere on February 16 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Naturally, my curiosity led me to ask: does the first episode of 2025 continue directly from where the last episode of 2024 ended? The talented actor from This Is Us elucidated that indeed it does!
The investigation continues, picking up from where it previously stood. A fresh lead has been acquired, courtesy of a former detective named Keaton, who brought a new perspective to the case. Now, our investigator is following this trail diligently, sorting through the new information that’s come to light, and we’re off running with the investigation once more.
In actuality, Colter received a significant piece of news from Keaton, portrayed by Brent Sexton in Bosch. The information from their somewhat reluctant informant unveiled that the person responsible for Gina’s disappearance is identified as “Teacher.” However, whether Gina was still alive or not remained unanswered by the bloodied man, as the credits began to roll before he could respond.
Given that Colter finds a break in the case by 2024 and mindful of the long span since he initially investigated Gina’s disappearance, how optimistic might he be about ultimately uncovering the truth? Hartley revealed:
It’s an insightful query you’ve posed. As time passes – whether it’s days, hours, or even seconds – the chances of finding someone alive diminish significantly. However, this person is unique; he’s relentless, like a dog with a bone. He won’t stop searching until he finds something, for as long as his life lasts.
Regardless of the outcome, Colter persists in searching for Gina and providing answers to Camille, and it appears that those answers may be imminent following a decade of uncertainty. Interestingly enough, this narrative strand has been gradually unfolding throughout Season 2, enriching the routine weekly cases with additional layers. Hartley further mentioned his appreciation for the serialized approach in the storytelling.
Every year, he returns to see Frank Whales, sensing there’s an unresolved connection between them. Though he hasn’t quite deciphered it yet, he remains convinced he will eventually. What I admire about him is his determination – he won’t give up until he understands. I appreciate that quality in our series too; it combines a procedural format with serialized elements, which I find both distinctive and excellent.
Since “Tracker” hasn’t finished its season yet and summer break is approaching, it’s uncertain if this weekend’s midseason premiere and the finale marked “To Be Continued” will wrap up Gina’s story. However, there’s a rich history in Colter’s family to fuel more drama, and fans would definitely appreciate cameos from Jensen Ackles as Russell Shaw and Melissa Roxburgh as Dory Shaw if everything works out!
For now, check out a promo for Tracker‘s midseason return to CBS below:
Don’t miss out! Make sure you’re glued to CBS this coming Sunday, February 16th at 8 p.m. ET. I’m really looking forward to the second season premiere of “Tracker,” titled “The Disciple,” starring Justin Hartley. This intriguing series will be preceded by Morris Chestnut’s new show, “Watson.” The unique take on traditional Sherlock Holmes mysteries in this freshman series promises to keep you guessing too!
