‘He’s Sort Of Like My James Bond’: Colman Domingo Explains Why He Wants To Do More Seasons Of Netflix’s The Madness, And I Dig His Thinking

As a fan who has spent countless hours binge-watching shows and movies, I can confidently say that The Madness is a rare gem in today’s crowded TV landscape. With Colman Domingo delivering an exceptional performance as Muncie Daniels, this limited series has left an indelible mark on me, and it’s hard not to root for more adventures for our modern-day superhero.

Spoilers for The Madness lie ahead, so read on at your own discretion.

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but look forward to what the 2025 TV schedule holds, but there are still some fantastic series from this year that deserve a spotlight. One such series is Netflix’s “The Madness,” and with Colman Domingo leading the charge, it seems to be resonating strongly with viewers. With its success, one can’t help but ponder if this could turn into an ongoing show. In a recent interview with TopMob, Domingo expressed his desire for more seasons, and I wholeheartedly agree with his reasoning.

This drama series revolves around the character Muncie Daniels (played by Colman Domingo), a CNN commentator who gets falsely accused of murdering a white supremacist leader following a visit to the Poconos. As he uncovers the truth, he realizes he’s been set up and works to clear his name. This investigation leads him into a web of intrigue surrounding a powerful corporation called Revitalize. By the end of the eight-episode season, Muncie successfully escapes danger, clears his name, and appears to reconcile with his children and estranged wife.

In addition, Muncie makes a change in his life by leaving his job as a media pundit and opting for a teaching career, aiming to escape his personal turmoil. Daniels appears to find his contentment, although there might be more to the tale. Prior to the show’s debut, I had the chance to talk with Mr. Domingo about reprising his role as Muncie. As expected, the actor’s response was straightforward: yes, he would be willing to do so in Sing Sing.

Listen, I told my entire team, my showrunners, I believe I’ve told Netflix. I told my co stars. It’s the show that — I come from the theater. I like doing limited runs of things, because I like to move on and discover something new. But I felt like I could discover even more with Muncie. I can go on and on. I actually thought, really, I could do a Season 2 of this.

At present, no official announcement has been made about a second season. However, considering “The Madness” held the top spot among Netflix streaming TV shows in the U.S. for more than a week and is currently in second place (behind a new highly-rated original series, Black Doves), it seems quite likely that it will be renewed. What’s even more intriguing is that an actor from Euphoria has mentioned a well-known fictional character while making his argument for a second season. This could potentially increase the chances of a green light for Season 2.

In a way, it seems to me that he bears a resemblance to my James Bond character – you get the picture? I believe he possesses abilities he may not realize, but he’s ready and eager to be cunning and communicate effectively with various individuals. Given his profession as a pundit and academic, he has a wide network of contacts. He knows how to discern their needs and desires. Consequently, I think he can serve as an agent for good in our world. So, in my opinion, he’s a contemporary superhero.

I appreciate the perspective he presents, as it suggests Muncie could fit seamlessly into various mystery or conspiracy-driven scenarios. This reminds me of James Bond’s diverse adventures across his multiple films. Some might ponder if Daniels could match the excitement of Bond, but let’s recall that Muncie once jumped off a cliff to avoid death and participated in a swamp fight. As for potential storylines, Colman Domingo shared this thought with me:

And I even sort of like, you know, soft pitched an idea how it could continue, because [Muncie had to figure some things out. He and his family, and they form a new bond by the end of the series, and a lot of things go down. But I feel like now that he has these attributes, and he knows what’s possible and what he can, you know, advocate for in the world and use his mind, body and soul for, I feel like that’s limitless. I feel like we could take him somewhere else and get caught up in another situation.

Just as the suspenseful mystery stories influenced Colman Domingo’s work, The Madness subjected Muncie Daniels to numerous trials, and it’s clear there are more chapters to be written in his story. Some plotlines were left unresolved, such as the escalation of Revitalize and that individual from The Forge, a white supremacist group, who managed to avoid arrest when their sector was raided by law enforcement. Personally, I’m eager to discover what’s next for this intriguing series.

Currently, you have the opportunity to watch “The Madness” simultaneously with top-notch shows available on Netflix. Keep an eye out for updates concerning a possible second season!
