Video game innovator Hideo Kojima might soon step away from creating games, as suggested by his recent remarks on platform X regarding his long-term involvement in the gaming industry.
In a recent update on platform X, Kojima expresses that he’s starting to ponder about how many more years he might continue designing video games. He wrote, “As I grow older, I often find myself contemplating for how much longer I can keep my creative juices flowing. I aspire to carry on forever, but will it be another 10 or even 20 years? Every day seems like a race against the clock. Yet, at 87, Ridley Scott is still an active force in the industry, and he created the iconic film Gladiator well past his current age in my life.
Starting with Konami in 1986, then venturing out on his own in 2015, Hideo Kojima is the mastermind behind the original creation and scripting of the now enduring Metal Gear Solid series. His debut independent project, the widely praised Death Stranding, was followed by the sequel, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, and a film adaptation too. Additionally, he’s collaborating with Jordan Peele on a new stealth game called Physint, which was unveiled last February. Kojima has yet to set a release date for the game, but he plans to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his career as a game developer in 2026.
As I reach this stage in life, I find myself pondering how many more years I have left to maintain my creative spirit. I yearn to continue for as long as possible, but I wonder if it’s another decade or two? Every day seems like a race against the ticking clock. Yet, at 87, Ridley Scott is still actively working, and he was just as productive in his younger years.
