Beware! If you haven’t caught up with the latest episode of ‘High Potential’, which is now available on ABC or through your Hulu subscription, there may be some plot twists revealed here.
Prior to Kaitlin Olson appearing in one of ABC’s most daring TV crossovers, which combined characters from “Abbott Elementary” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, she reappeared on television for the midseason premiere of the offbeat, trope-defying drama “High Potential“. Alongside an intricate murder investigation to solve, Olson’s character Morgan appeared to advance her professional relationships, particularly with JD Pardo’s Tom and Daniel Sanjuta’s Karadec. However, don’t anticipate the full-blown love triangle between these characters to appear on TV schedules by 2025 anytime soon.
In the episode titled “Obsessed,” viewers were left bewildered when Morgan opted not to contact Tom, instead showing up unexpectedly at Karadec’s apartment and spending the entire night immersed in the case they were working on. Remarkably, there were no romantic sparks between them, and they opened up about their personal relationships, with Karadec revealing a past engagement as a surprise revelation.
Sunjata discussed with TVLine about the progress made by the quasi-couple as they deepen their relationship and build trust, although kisses might not happen right away. To quote him directly: “They’re learning to open up more and trust each other, even though love may not blossom into a kiss just yet.
In this pivotal moment, Morgan revealed something about her new romantic prospect, prompting Adam to open up about himself too. This interaction marked a significant shift in both their professional and personal dynamics, offering an unprecedented insight into their lives. It’s a unique scene that adds depth to their characters, making it potentially unforgettable for the viewers.
Generally speaking, there’s been a veil of secrecy surrounding Karadec’s personal life. His constant attire of a buttoned-up shirt and tie suggests a certain rigidity, yet it leaves room for speculation about whether he might be a ladies’ man with secret romantic entanglements. However, his demeanor hints at a personality that seems too serious for such distractions. Instead, Karadec appears to yearn for something more stable and grounded in reality, acknowledging that his life may not offer the same level of stability as others due to his profession.
It’s clear that Daniel Sunjata understands many fans hope to see Karadec and Morgan develop a romantic relationship at some point, and some from TopMob would welcome it. However, I am not among those who feel that way. Instead, I prefer the characters to maintain their professional camaraderie rather than introducing any romantic elements, at least for now. Consequently, I was pleased when Morgan eventually tried out Tom’s cooking. Yet, I can’t ignore feeling a bit apprehensive, as Olson and Sunjata have a strong on-screen chemistry together.
The veterinarian from “Rescue Me” spoke casually yet intriguingly about the romantic tension between Karadec and Morgan on the show, hinting at a possible relationship in the future if the series continues. His exact words were:
As a passionate cinephile, I’m confidently seated in the front row with Kaitlin as our executive producer, Todd Harthan steering the show, and Drew Goddard orchestrating the entire production. These masterminds have a clear vision, and I can hardly fathom them hastily jumping to any decision. After all, once you’ve set sail on their creative journey, it’s not easy to retrace your steps – trust me, I get it.
The success of “High Potential” in captivating audiences is crucial for its continuation, allowing Morgan and Karadec to reap their rewards. Given the impressive viewership ratings so far, it appears that ABC may greenlight Season 2 before the current season concludes. Sunjata shares this optimism, suggesting that if a second season doesn’t materialize, both cast and crew would be taken aback.
So make sure to keep tuning into High Potential every Tuesday night on ABC at 9:00 p.m. ET.
