As a longtime fan of Stephen Colbert and politics, I can hardly contain my excitement for his live shows at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago! With a lineup that includes big names like Hillary Clinton, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Nancy Pelosi, Hakeem Jeffries, Pete Buttigieg, and even Chance the Rapper, it’s shaping up to be an unforgettable event.
Stephen Colbert will be bringing “The Late Show” to Chicago during the 2024 Democratic National Convention, as several prominent figures are expected to appear alongside him in live broadcasts starting next week.
Colbert begins his visit to the Midwest on Monday, which is also when the Democratic National Convention (DNC) starts. On that same night, he’ll be joined by Hillary Rodham Clinton and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who will also host a panel during the DNC. The Tuesday episode will focus on Nancy Pelosi and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, while Wednesday’s show will include Pete Buttigieg and a performance by Chance the Rapper. The details for the final episode on Thursday are yet to be announced; the guests for that episode will be unveiled next week.
Each episode is set to be recorded live at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre, which is not far from United Center, where the majority of the convention events will take place. Colbert had previously announced his upcoming shows at the Auditorium Theatre in April. “I am thrilled to broadcast from the stunning Auditorium,” he said then. “I began my career in Chicago; let’s see if I can conclude it there.”
Back in July, I tuned into “The Late Show” as it went live amidst the Republican National Convention. While many were gathered in Milwaukee for the event, this time around, our episodes were recorded at the Ed Sullivan Theater right here in New York City. In past election years, like 2016 and 2020, we’ve been broadcasting live during these political conventions, keeping viewers informed in real-time.
In August 2024, the Democratic National Convention is set to take place from the 19th through the 22nd. This event gathers Democrats nationwide to back Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid for presidency, with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice-presidential candidate. The primary events will be happening at the United Center, but additional activities are planned at McCormick Place Convention Center. An estimated 50,000 individuals are anticipated to attend this year’s gathering.
