As a 90’s kid who grew up with the original Tamagotchi craze, I can’t help but feel a nostalgic thrill at the sight of Hiroshi Fujiwara’s collaboration with Bandai on the FRGMT EDITION 2. The fact that this iconic digital pet is getting a makeover from none other than the mastermind behind Fragment Design is just the cherry on top!
Hiroshi Fujiwara and Bandai have reunited for their newest Original Tamagotchi FRGMT EDITION 2 toy.
In the second partnership, Fujiwara personally designed both the body and packaging for a new Tamagotchi model. This model will be available in white, alongside the traditional black colorway. Standing at approximately two inches tall, it features a matte finish on its body for a clean yet intricate appearance. The classic Tamagotchi training game is included within. Similar to the original series, the black version operates on the GEN1 program, while the white model is equipped with the GEN2 program.
Starting September 2nd, a lottery system will be implemented to acquire the Original Tamagotchi FRGMT EDITION, which comes in either black or white. Each unit costs approximately $30 USD (equivalent to ¥4,400 JPY). The lottery will last until September 8th, and successful participants can expect delivery of their toy by December 2024. At this time, the collaboration is exclusive to Japan only.
