Hollywood Stars from Marginalized Communities Urge Fellow Americans to Get Out to Vote in New PSA (Exclusive)

As a passionate advocate for representation and diversity, I find the “I, Too, Am America” campaign deeply inspiring. Growing up as a part of a marginalized community, I’ve often felt underrepresented and overlooked, much like the characters in Langston Hughes’ poem that inspired this movement.


A group of six entertainers, all originating from underrepresented communities in America, will release a public service message on Tuesday (National Voter Registration Day) – just seven weeks before the 2024 presidential election. This announcement encourages other Americans to take part in the voting process by registering to vote.

The campaign, orchestrated by the media company ICON MANN, will broadcast 48 times on Revolt cable network between September 17th and 29th. Notable figures participating in this campaign include Ali LeRoi, a producer and director who created the show “Everybody Hates Chris”, Tony Award-winning actress Anika Noni Rose from the stage and screen, Grammy Award-winning singer and actress Estelle, actor and activist Jason Butler Harner, actor and producer Michael Ealy, Emmy and Oscar nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo.

Titled “I, Too, Am America,” the second part of this campaign was influenced by Langston Hughes’ 1926 poem “I, Too.” This poem honors America’s rich diversity. The PSA was skillfully directed by Shadae Lamar Smith and showcases portraits created by Ali LeRoi. Post-production for the project was managed by Lucky Day. Burrell Communications is the media partner supporting this campaign.

Tamara N. Houston, founder of ICON MANN, stated that ‘I, Too, Am America’ serves as a reminder and assertion that we will not be overlooked in the fabric of the United States of America. It embodies the everyday achievement of the multicultural communities, demonstrating that anything is possible if you put in the effort, making this country truly exceptional.

Houston, who has recently teamed up with The Creative Coalition on an independent initiative to stimulate youth voter registration, went on to explain, “Given the ongoing daily production of divisiveness, it was crucial for ICON MANN to craft a message promoting unity. America’s rich history stems from its diversity and acceptance of its people. When brainstorming ‘I, Too, Am America,’ it was imperative to include representation for everyone.
