As a fervent supporter of democracy and women’s rights, I find it truly inspiring to witness such a diverse group of influential figures rallying behind Kamala Harris. Each one brings a unique perspective and strength to the table, mirroring the multifaceted nature of our society.
This fall, it seems like everyone from Taylor Swift to George Clooney, Bruce Springsteen to Oprah Winfrey is backing Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz in the presidential race. These big names have been filling stadiums and theaters worldwide with their endorsements, and now they’re using their influence to help secure a Democratic win next month. As a gamer, I’m rooting for them!
Billie Eilish recently urged her fans to vote as if their lives were at stake, stating that it truly is a matter of life and death. Similarly, many other celebrities such as Taylor Swift have been promoting voter registration along with their endorsements for Harris. This has resulted in a significant surge of visitors to sites like Vote.gov.
Others have openly criticized the previous President Trump and his vice presidential candidate, J.D. Vance, with Springsteen describing the Republican nominee as “the most potentially harmful candidate for presidency during my entire lifetime.” (Find out who supports Trump.)
Below, you’ll find a compilation of some of the most prominent figures in Hollywood who have expressed their backing for the Harris-Walz campaign.
Taylor Swift
The worldwide-heard endorsement came from Swift. Following months of anticipation, the renowned singer publicly expressed her support for Harris in a detailed post, which she shared immediately following Harris’ debate against Trump.
I’m casting my vote for @kamalaharris as she stands up for the causes I strongly support, which require a fierce advocate. I was genuinely moved by her choice of running mate, @timwalz, who has been a long-time champion for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s personal autonomy over her own body.
Swift publicly endorsed her stance using the playful label “cat lady without children,” referencing J.D. Vance’s earlier comments. This post garnered attention from 283 million of her followers, causing a surge in 337,826 people visiting voter registration websites on the same night.
George Clooney
George Clooney became one of the early notable figures in Hollywood to back Harris, following his contentious piece in The New York Times where he suggested that Biden should exit the presidential race.
In November, it’s unlikely that Biden will lead us to victory with the current president, according to Clooney. Additionally, he predicts that we won’t secure the House, and there’s a high chance of losing the Senate as well.
When the president declared his exit from the election in July, the actor expressed his sentiment to CNN, stating, “President Biden has demonstrated what genuine leadership entails. He’s safeguarding democracy once more.” He further mentioned, “We are all eager to contribute in any way we can to support Vice President Harris in her remarkable pursuit.
Barbra Streisand
Streisand initially backed Harris, giving her endorsement on the exact day when Biden declared he was ceasing his campaign to secure the White House.
The popular singer posted on social media that Joe Biden will be remembered for making substantial progress during his 4-year tenure. They expressed appreciation for Biden’s role in safeguarding our democracy. Later, they noted that Harris aims to reinstate reproductive rights for women and build upon the successes of the Biden-Harris administration.
Jamie Lee Curtis
After Biden withdrew, Curtis publicly praised Harris as a reliable and proven leader, emphasizing her dedication as a strong champion for women’s rights and individuals of color. Since then, she has consistently been sharing election details across social media platforms in the run-up to November.
Megan Thee Stallion
At a preliminary rally in Atlanta, Megan Thee Stallion graced the stage. Remarkable personalities such as Quavo, Stacey Abrams, Senators Jon Ossoff, and Raphael Warnock also addressed the crowd during this event.
“Make some noise for Ms. Harris, our future president,” the Grammy winner said to a packed house. Just before performing “Body” later that night, she told the crowd, “I know my ladies in the crowd love their body. And if you want to keep loving your body, you know who to vote for.”
Charli XCX
Though Charli XCX, a British artist who’s unable to vote in U.S. elections, posted a tweet saying “kamala IS brat,” this playful endorsement seemed to give the Harris campaign a boost among memes shortly after its debut. Discussion about Harris being a “brat” even made its way onto CNN and Fox News, with Bill Maher adding his thoughts on the matter as well.
Regarding my backing for Harris, I strongly feel it’s crucial to stand on the side that upholds democracy and women’s rights,” Charli stated later. “I’m more than willing to assist in preserving democracy for future generations.
Kerry Washington
On the last evening of July’s Democratic National Convention, Kerry Washington served as the host; during this event, she was joined by her Scandal co-star, Tony Goldwyn, who had hosted the opening night.
Washington, well-known for her role as Olivia Pope, addressed her Chicago audience and made it clear that while she’s the one on stage, she isn’t the main character in this narrative. Instead, she identifies herself as a mother, a daughter, a union member, a granddaughter of immigrants, a Black woman with roots tracing back to enslaved people. She’s here tonight because she’s an American, a voter, and believes that our strength lies in amplifying all voices.
Later on, she addressed the crowd, “You serve as ambassadors, troubleshooters, even saviors – if I may be bold, you embody the spirit of Olivia Pope.
Finneas and Billie Eilish
Earlier this month, the sibling pair showcased their endorsement for Harris in a video shared on social media platforms. This was done on National Voter Registration Day, and they emphasized their backing based on Harris’ advocacy for “our reproductive rights, environmental protection, and our democratic system.
As a gamer, I firmly believe that we shouldn’t allow fanatics to dictate our paths and limit our liberties, particularly our future. My sister echoes this sentiment, urging everyone to cast their vote as if their very existence hinged upon it, because in essence, it does.
Oprah Winfrey
At the Democratic National Convention, Oprah Winfrey unexpectedly took the stage and expressed, “In 2024, decency and respect will be up for grabs at the polls.
In no time at all, we will be educating our boys and girls about the extraordinary journey of a man, born to an Indian mother and a Jamaican father, who were both passionate and dynamic immigrants. This man eventually rose to become the 47th president of the United States,” Oprah announced, as the crowd erupted in cheers.
Beyoncé
Beyoncé subtly endorsed Kamala Harris by granting authorization for her campaign to play “Freedom” during Harris’ initial visit to her headquarters on July 22. Later, this song was also utilized in Harris’ first advertisement. It was verified that Beyoncé had given consent for both uses.
