One memorable moment in director Chris Columbus’ film “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” featuring a brief appearance by Donald Trump, has gained significant attention. Trump, who appeared on screen for only seven seconds to guide young Kevin McCallister, is now associated with this scene as much as he is himself. Interestingly, Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States earlier this year. If given the choice, director Columbus would likely remove that interaction from the movie, stating that it has “become a burden” for him.
In an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Columbus shared that while he deeply regrets Trump appearing in Home Alone 2, there’s little he can do to change it now. “I can’t undo it,” he joked, referencing Trump’s controversial mass deportation proposals with a touch of humor.
If I make this cut, there’s a good chance I’ll get deported from the U.S. because I might no longer meet the requirements for residency, which means I’d need to return to Italy or another location.
In a previous conversation, it was mentioned that Columbus, who has Italian and Czech roots but was born in Spangler, Pennsylvania, initially intended to omit Trump’s appearance from the film “Home Alone 2” in 1992. However, the audience responded so positively during early screenings, with laughter and excitement, that the scene remained in the movie. Columbus now shares this anecdote with The Chronicle: “The audience applauded and applauded, finding it highly amusing.”
Although I believe I have extensive knowledge of comedy, it’s evident that my understanding is incomplete, as I didn’t anticipate something being funny. Now, looking back, it seems to be a burden rather than a strength – something I wish hadn’t been created by me.
