As someone who has been following the Chrisley family’s journey closely, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of empathy for Savannah and the entire family during this holiday season. The absence of Todd and Julie behind bars is palpable, and it’s heartbreaking to see them missing out on precious moments with their loved ones.
On this Christmas day, many families are relishing in fireside gatherings, hot cocoa, cookies, carols, and various family activities; however, for those families with absent loved ones, a hint of melancholy lingers. This has been the case for the Chrisley family, as dad Todd and mom Julie were incarcerated at the start of 2023. They spent their final holiday together with daughter Savannah, Nanny Faye, and the rest of the family before reporting to prison. Consequently, this Christmas marks their second holiday spent in confinement. And Savannah Chrisley is weary of maintaining a facade of joyfulness while her family remains separated.
Indeed, she expressed this during an impactful chat with her Nanny Faye on her podcast ‘Unlocked’ not long ago. Savannah has been looking after her brother Grayson and niece Chloe (who used to be under Todd and Julie’s care), as their parents are serving prison sentences at the moment. After a tumultuous year, where Julie attempted to reduce her prison sentence, she admitted that attempting to make last year’s holidays seem ordinary was a valuable lesson she learned.
It’s clear that neither Mom nor Dad are around anymore. I realized this during last Christmas. That day, I took care of Christmas for the kids, prepared a full meal, and even had friends and you, Nanny Faye, over. It was delightful, we had a wonderful time… but deep down, we all know that Mom and Dad aren’t here with us now. Pretending things are the same as they used to be isn’t beneficial for anyone.
Once more, it’s Christmas time, and she along with her children have arranged a vacation abroad to create fresh experiences. This appears to be an effective approach as the Chrisley family adapts to their new circumstances, with the bond of the family serving as a strong anchor even with a member incarcerated.
This year, I posed a question to the kids: “Would you prefer gifts or a trip instead?” They chose the latter option. Consequently, I’m putting aside their Christmas stockings, and we’ll be venturing outside the country for our festive celebrations.
Savannah has been open about the impact on her life due to the Chrisley family’s court cases, and she directly attributed their legal issues in the past to government actions. Here, she admits that she is still grappling with the situation, hoping for good fortune to turn things around. She also shared with Nanny Faye her conviction that everything will become clear eventually.
I’m quite optimistic that the Chrisleys will be freed from prison ahead of the holiday season next year, allowing them to reunite as a family. However, I’ll be spending Christmas with my other son, Savannah’s Uncle Randy, this year.
I’m hoping they’ll return the following year, and though our spirits may be low, we refuse to let adversity prevail. We’ll keep moving forward, just as we always do. Change is inevitable; this too shall pass. We’ll emerge stronger for it. For we believe that God won’t burden us with more than we can handle.
Despite the Chrisley lawyers maintaining a positive outlook on appeals, Julie Chrisley’s recent request for a reconsideration of her sentence did not result in a reduction of time. Instead, she was resentenced to serve 84 months in prison, which equates to her original sentence of 7 years if served completely. However, Nanny Faye remains hopeful about the future.
Currently, Todd Chrisley was initially given a sentence of 12 years due to his involvement in a bank fraud and tax evasion case. However, it appears that his release date has been adjusted slightly to more than 10 years. Unfortunately, Todd encountered a setback in prison when he lost his position at the chapel. We’ll make sure to keep you informed if and when the Chrisleys are able to return home for the holidays.
