Contains spoilers for “Chicago P.D.” Season 12, Episode 21 and 22 — “Open Casket” and “Vows”
The final episode of Season 12 for “Chicago P.D.” is just around the corner, and fans have been eagerly anticipating a Burzek wedding ever since it was teased at the start of the season. However, with the events of the recent episode “Open Casket,” the road to matrimony may not be as smooth sailing for the couple as we’d hope. Additionally, Kim Burgess (played by Marina Squerciati) has been temporarily suspended from her duties as a police officer, casting some uncertainty on what appeared to be a bright future for her character.
The downfall of Kim is orchestrated by Deputy Chief Reid (played by Shawn Hatosy), a crooked cop whom Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) recognizes as being involved with criminal gangs. Reid exacts his revenge by exploiting the information he possesses about Torres’ (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) affair with deceased informant Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez), and the extent to which the rest of the team was aware of this secret. However, Hank has a secret weapon: Jesus Otero (Juan Javier Cardenas), a drug dealer who appears ready to betray Reid.
Sadly, by the episode’s conclusion, Otero has perished, Intelligence is facing an internal investigation, and Torres has been taken into custody. Burgess manages to avoid worse fate than being dismissed, but it certainly casts a shadow over the wedding. Could Kim and Adam Ruzek’s (Patrick John Flueger) joy be fleeting?
The wedding appears to be approaching
Kim and Adam’s wedding is set, but the sneak peek for the season finale of “Vows” suggests that things might not go as planned. With Intelligence undergoing a thorough investigation, their careers and lives hanging in the balance, there’s a possibility they might decide to postpone the wedding. Although pictures exist of them walking into married life, “Chicago P.D.” might surprise fans by introducing an unexpected obstacle for the couple.
Based on assurances from multiple individuals associated with “Chicago P.D.”, including showrunner Gwen Sigan, it is expected that the couple will get married in Season 12, with no further separations to follow. Back in January, Sigan told ScreenRant, “Yes, there will be happiness… They are going to make it down the aisle this season.” Whether fans can trust Sigan’s word or if an unexpected, shocking turn of events occurs remains to be seen. The answers will be revealed when “Vows” airs.
