It’s become common for quite some time that if you achieve fame in any field, it’s likely you’ll also venture into entrepreneurship, offering products such as creams, potions, food, lotions, clothing, home goods, and even unique items like vagina candles. The realm of celebrity lifestyle influencing is becoming increasingly congested, and Gwyneth Paltrow, founder of Goop and an Oscar winner, has shared her thoughts on Meghan Markle attempting to join this scene.
What Did Gwyneth Paltrow Say About Meghan Markle Trying To Become A Lifestyle Influencer?
Despite Gwyneth Paltrow’s long-standing fame from her notable roles in films like “Shakespeare in Love,” “Se7en,” and various Marvel movies, it could be argued that her notoriety reached a new peak when she launched her lifestyle company, Goop, in 2008. Now, in addition to her acting career, she is also recognized for unique items such as the famed vagina candles (Kim Kardashian was among the recipients!) and numerous other high-end products/lifestyle suggestions.
Currently, Meghan Markle, previously an actress on Suits and now Duchess of Sussex, has been gradually introducing her personal lifestyle brand (now known as As Ever) for approximately a year. Lately, she’s unveiled a new television series, “With Love, Meghan,” which is scheduled to air in 2025 and can be streamed with your Netflix subscription. Interestingly, both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reside in Montecito, California, much like Paltrow and her husband. However, Gwyneth Paltrow recently revealed to Vanity Fair that they live there separately.
I’ve met Meghan, and she appears delightful, but beyond that, we are strangers. Perhaps one day, I might attempt to bypass their security and offer them a homemade pie.
First, let’s pause for a moment before we picture these two fashionable women enjoying a slice of pie while discussing jam recipes and workout routines. Do you recall when Elizabeth Taylor ventured into the perfume industry? It made quite an impact in the late ’80s, as such endeavors were not common at that time.
In fact, quite the opposite is more accurate, as well-known personalities such as Selena Gomez (with Rare Beauty, making her a billionaire), Naomi Watts, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jennifer Lopez, and Kourtney Kardashian Barker (whose Poosh brand collaborated with Goop) all have their own beauty and lifestyle brands. So, how does one of our long-standing celebrity influencers feel about Markle entering her domain? She stated:
In situations where discussions arise concerning certain women within society, I naturally feel compelled to advocate on their behalf. Growing up, I’ve learned to view other women as companions rather than adversaries, and believe that there is ample room for everyone to thrive. I strongly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to give it a shot at any pursuit they desire.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I might have initially rolled my eyes at the sometimes forgetful star’s words from a slightly cynical perspective, thinking, “Well, isn’t that just what she’d say?” However, given her past stance against automatic competition with fellow female brand owners by labeling it as “legacy patriarchy bullshit” way back when, I believe Gwyneth Paltrow is indeed expressing sincere sentiments.
Absolutely! Even though the Duchess and Markle are now business competitors, it doesn’t necessarily mean they need to become enemies or harbor feelings of hatred towards each other. Instead, let’s appreciate that they can coexist, compete, and offer mutual support.
