As a hardcore Hallmark movie fan and a dedicated Kansas City Chiefs supporter, I was both thrilled and puzzled when I heard that a new romantic comedy titled “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” would be filmed at Arrowhead Stadium. The prospect of seeing my favorite team and my beloved holiday movies come together in one production was too enticing to resist. But the news that this movie would be shot during the sweltering Kansas City summer had me worried for the safety of the cast and crew, as well as the fans who were invited to participate.
Hallmark Channel is recognized for its romantic TV movies, particularly during the holiday season when their Christmas collection is released. However, most of these festive productions are filmed during warmer months to ensure they’re ready in time for broadcasting. Kansas City Chiefs supporters may not have known this filming fact before; but now, over a thousand fans braved the cold weather to take part in the upcoming movie “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.” The production team ensured the fans’ safety during filming.
In June, Hallmark and the Kansas City Chiefs made an announcement of their collaboration on a romantic comedy with a football theme. With popular figures like Tyler Hynes from Hallmark and coach Andy Reid involved, it came as no surprise that fans were eager to be part of this project. On July 15, approximately 1,000 members of Chiefs Kingdom showed up at Arrowhead Stadium dressed for winter, which might seem unusual during the summer heat. However, Lisa Hamilton Daly, Hallmark’s executive vice president of programming, assured the Kansas City Star that they were well-prepared for the event.
Yesterday, I was deeply concerned that we might lose some team members and we were exceptionally prepared. We were equipped with ice packs, umbrellas, air conditioning, and fans. We urged people to come in quickly, bundled up in sweaters, feigning coldness despite the warmth. It required quite a bit of acting on our part.
I’m blown away by the thoughtful preparations made by the Hallmark team to ensure everyone’s safety during filming, despite the scorching Kansas City heat reaching a staggering 100 degrees on July 15th. And hats off to the dedicated fans who put on an impressive show amidst these challenging conditions! According to weather reports, we went through an astonishing 2,000 bottles of water to stay hydrated during filming.
Instead of giving ice packs for fans to wear, she mentioned, they wrapped these in scarves and tucked them into their coats. However, creating a holiday film illusion – or editing – will be necessary to conceal the truth that these fans were actually perspiring in their Chiefs apparel while feigning shivers in Kansas City’s freezing conditions.
As a gamer, I can imagine myself being part of the production team for Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story. This project was quite an experience, handling over a thousand more people than usual. But dealing with the heat while filming isn’t entirely new to us.
I’m relieved that all the Chiefs fans could safely enjoy their experience, making it a memorable and hopefully enjoyable event. The release date for “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” on Hallmark is still uncertain, but usually, their Countdown to Christmas shows air from October to December. Until then, you might want to watch some classic Christmas movies to get into the holiday mood.
