As a gamer who’s been around the block a few times, I’ve seen my fair share of cameos and reprisals, but Jennifer Garner‘s return as Elektra in Deadpool & Wolverine truly took me by surprise! It’s been 19 years since we last saw her wielding those deadly sais, and let me tell you, she hasn’t lost a step.

The encounter between Deadpool and Wolverine was filled with unexpected twists. Apart from Blake Lively’s introduction as Lady Deadpool in the Marvel universe, an additional unforeseen female superhero, Elektra, also made a brief appearance.
Since the main plot points of the movie were disclosed about two weeks after its release in theaters, Jennifer Garner has recently divulged the circumstances behind her return to the role for the first time in 19 years. In a post on Instagram, she reminisced that during the filming of The Adam Project, directed by Shawn Levy along with Ryan Reynolds (who also starred in Deadpool and Wolverine), there was an unspoken understanding between them that could express ideas without words, equivalent to 20 pages of dialogue or even nuclear codes. This creative harmony between the two is quite extraordinary.
Apart from attempting to convince my kids’ preschool friends that I was actually a ninja hidden in plain sight, I hadn’t wielded Elektra’s sais since 2004; while I was physically fit, I wasn’t quite ready for Marvel-level fitness, as Garner confessed. She revealed that she and her longtime stunt double Shauna Duggins intensified their training to get ready for the role. They trained daily with Beth Nicely, attended boxing classes three times a week under Flvco Pichardo’s tutelage, and joined numerous workout sessions led by Peloton’s Becs Gentry.

Apart from expressing gratitude to Levy and Reynolds for reuniting Elektra with her character, Garner expressed admiration for their unique talent in concluding stories and recognizing the potential of others. In a post, she wrote: “I didn’t realize that Elektra and I needed an ending, but Shawn and Ryan knew it well. They excel in many areas, but their ability to identify and uplift those around them is truly exceptional.”
She included a backstage video with her film announcement, showcasing her rigorous preparation to reprise her role as Elektra, including weight training and trampoline jumping.
Jennifer Garner first appeared as the lead character in 2003’s “Daredevil”, sharing the screen with her former spouse, Ben Affleck. Two years after that, her character got a solo movie titled “Elektra“. Unfortunately, despite positive reviews for Garner’s acting, the film was financially unsuccessful due to its weak script.
